By the way, I am not being prompted to write this. I had a lot of difficulty finding people in Southern Vermont to do good work. Most others are way over priced, do shoddy work, and cannot be depended on at all. I'm glad they're around to help with my home improvement projects.

Thank you, Murphy Family Electric, for taking the time to rectify the situation.
This was a disaster from start to finish. The voucher for service was bought, and message sent to the company promptly. However, instead of Murphy following up with me immediately, I finally had to contact them to schedule service and explain what I wanted. After discussing the details on the phone, I sent the following confirmation by e-mail (note *I* had to send it, not the other way around): "Thanks for calling me back yesterday and scheduling my appointment on Monday at 7 a.m. for installation of one 120v, 16A (this is a 20amp) and one 240v 30A Twist-Lock outlet on the outside of my house." When the technician arrived on Monday, he did not know what to do and had to ask my partner for the details, who in turn had to call me to reiterate what exactly was to be done. The technician did not have the proper outlets in his truck so had to leave to buy them. On returning, he installed the 120v outlet correctly, but stated he couldn't find the proper 240v outlet, so would have to return the next day to install. Keep in mind, we are working people who are not home during the day, so having the tech come out again would mean another day of work lost. Fortunately, he did manage to drill the correct holes so that he would not have to gain access to the inside of the house on the second day. I came home that day to find the 240v outlet installed incorrectly, with only one receptacle and a gaping hole and exposed wires left open to the elements where the other receptacle was supposed to be. I immediately sent an e-mail and pictures of the shoddy work to the company, who responded with more questions about the type of outlet required. I sent them the direct link to the EVSE site with pictures of the product that would be using the outlet. "I spoke directly with Tesla today. You will need a straight prong receptacle, versus the twist lock. When will the car or the cord for the car be delivered? Thank you." "Thanks for the follow up. We in fact have a Nissan Leaf, and the upgraded EVSE requires a twist lock outlet (see http://evseupgrade.com/?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=2). I'm more concerned with the open hole in the outlet than with the type." The third visit from the tech was scheduled for the next day, and he came and installed the outlet. When the EVSE arrived the outlet was the wrong type (L14 30P instead of L5 30P). Instead of risking another botched job and more delay and cost, I purchased an adapter for $50. And finally, to add insult to injury, the company charged me the full price of the work instead of honoring the voucher from Angie's List, necessitating a check for the difference to be sent in the mail. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY for critical electrical needs. They do not, apparently, know what they are doing."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/va/alexandria/murphy-family-electric-reviews-2089667.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Carmine's Plumbing, Heating & AIr Conditioning","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"VT","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Paul M."},"reviewBody":"Carmine's just finished a job at our home replacing two air conditioning systems (outside compressors as well as air handlers). RUN the other way! Mitch was originally hired for various home repairs and quoted me $1625. Every time he came it turned into something different and a bigger job that needed more money up front. When he put in an outside spigot, he said I needed a new hot water heater and I should pay up...

"I strongly caution anyone considering doing business with this company. I gave them a deposit of $4,428.65, and when I canceled a week later they kept almost $900 of it even though my service was not for another 6 weeks. You do sign a very simple, clearly stated document that says: should you cancel beyond three business days, you understand your deposit is non-refundable. Northern Basements may choose to refund depending on cancellation circumstances I fully acknowledge that I canceled a few days outside that window, but I hoped an honest company that cares about customers and referrals would choose to provide a full refund. I am a sucker for hoping that. They chose to risk my impression, referral, and review for $885.53. If nothing else comes out of this, I hope everyone reading at least goes in knowing that this statement on their contract is a real threat and your deposit is a hostage. Even Air b and bs offer full refunds on deposits within just a few days of their arrival date. 3 days to cancel with service not scheduled for 6 weeks out, Come on man. No materials were used. No service workers time was taken. The manager justified the 20% withholding as credit card fees, restocking fees, time and resources for the estimate, and administrative fees. I wholly accepted responsibility for the credit card fees and time of Paul, the gentleman who performed the assessment, and I offered to settle at 10%. I still believe any reputable company would have provided a full refund at this point in a project, or at most deduct the credit card fees because nothing more went into this beyond what would have normally been a free estimate. The further arguments the manager made for the additional fees were the scheduling of their team and the allocation of materials for my project. Complete nonsense, especially when the project was not set for 6 weeks away. Because they had my deposit hostage, they had control over how much they decided they wanted to keep, it was completely arbitrary, and they kept almost $900 of my money without providing anything. If they wanted to cover their credit card transaction fees, fine, at most 6%, but the rest is absolute robbery. The only solace I can find in this loss of almost $900 now is that I did not spend another $13,000 with them. I tried to call Paul after speaking with the manager to ask if he could do me a favor and try to reason with the manager on my behalf because he seemed nice enough. No answer. No callback. I will never seek out their services again and I will actively discourage others from doing so but, based on my experience, I expect they do not care."

The average cost to install a new water heater is around $1,300, but you can expect to pay between $875 and $1,750, depending on the kind of water heater, the size of the unit, and the professional chosen to complete the work. Tankless water heaters can push your price higher, as installation is more complicated, with prices as high as $3,500.
