"This was a difficult project. Removal of a large maple tree with a central rotted section that threatened my neighbor's house if it fell. It had to be removed. The tree was on a slope, any tree section removed could roll down the slope and hit my neighbor's house. Josh tied every section to be removed to the tree with a system of pulleys so the section would fall and not roll down the slope. The work took three days to accomplish and was successful done. His price was $1,000 less than from another tree service company. I highly recommend his services."

"The tree removal project was in our American black walnut Grove, and demanded superior ability to fill the trees, so they did not damage other valuable trees, and also demanded that the trees be cut as close to the ground as possible, so as to conserve this valuable board feet of furniture lumber The brothers came fully equipped and worked at an efficient pace and we’re very polite and responsive to our request"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

You’ll want to have your palm trees trimmed during the spring, ideally in May, before hurricane season sets in, which generally takes place during the late summer. Palm trees grow fastest over the summer months. You’ll also want to trim your palm trees when you notice:

  • Brown fronds

  • Dry leaves

  • Flower pods

  • Fruit

  • Fronds overgrown in power lines

  • Frond encroaching upon your neighbor’s home or yard

  • Visible damage from a storm

According to scientists at Penn State University, spotted lanternflies do not typically kill the trees and plants they feed on, but they can cause branches and segments to die off. However, they have been found to kill cultivated grapes, which can have devastating consequences for vineyard owners and regions that heavily rely on vineyards to create jobs and generate revenue. They have also killed the Ailanthu altissima, known as the tree of heaven, though this is classified as a noxious and invasive weed tree.

A serrated knife will work for cutting off small palm tree fronds, about 1 inch in diameter. For larger fronds, you will need pruning shears. You may also use a pruning saw, and if your palm tree is especially tall, an extended pole saw can help you reach the brown fronds around the trunk.

A dead tree should always be cut down, because it could fall and cause injuries or damage, and it can also attract insects like carpenter ants. A tree that’s diseased beyond repair should also be cut down, but it’s not always easy for a homeowner to tell. Signs of disease include dying branches, a hollow trunk, leaning, and discolored or missing leaves, but your best bet is to hire a local arborist who can evaluate the tree and tell you if it can be saved or should be cut down.

Late August, September, and mid-October are the ideal months for planting a young tree. However, the best time to plant a tree ultimately depends on when the weather transitions to fall-like conditions and eventually winter frost. As long as the hottest days of summer have passed and the ground hasn’t frozen yet, you can still successfully plant trees.
