"Facing due west in summer, the Sunshield motorized awning with additional roll down shade screen greatly increases our "slide out" recreational living space...our townhouse deck. It also shields the living room summer heat and TV visibility. Due to pandemic, we are hunkered down at home and rather than purchase an RV, we decided to invest in a new awning. A prudent investment."

Small jobs welcome

"Mac did an outstanding job replacing our poured concrete sidewalk. He was able to do the work quickly, on budget and the result was outstanding! Mac was great to work with...no problems communicating with him. We wanted to make sure our project was done with minimal impact to our yard and Mac did a great job in that regard. He also cleaned up after the work was done. I would recommend Sullivan Stone (Mac is the owner) without hesitation! We're planning another project for next year and I will definitely reach out to Sullivan Stone to assist us with that as well!"

"After deciding to start our dream stone patio to connect with the porch behind our home we reached out and contacted numerous masons to see the best approach. I found that Eric was able to come and give a comprehensive explanation of his process to build the patio. He listened to our requests being adamant on achieving our overall all satisfaction while his nice dog Rosa played with my nieces. Offering suggestions based on our interests and improving our original design, he was easily our best choice to make this patio a reality. With an ambitious attitude the project was done in good time and the lawn even looks great after the small amount of reseeding he did for us! We only have gotten great feedback from every guest since. Would highly recommend any day of the week."

"They were prompt, responsive and did exactly what they said they were going to do. They came out and made an estimate within 48 hours of my calling them and completed the work 4 business days after making the estimate. The price was reasonable. I'd hire them again."

Patios questions, answered by experts

Yes, porches require foundations. The type of foundation required, however, is determined by the type and use of the porch. For example, a screened-in porch won’t require a new cement foundation. However, if you turn your porch into a sunroom or plan on making it a living space, then chances are you need a foundation that’s more permanent than piers and posts.

An Arizona room may or may not count toward your home’s square footage, depending on local regulations and the specifics of the room, but generally does not get included in the total square footage. In many locations, a room needs to be built to the same quality as the rest of the home, have an integrated heating/cooling system, and be habitable year-round to count toward square footage.

The least expensive way to enclose a porch is with screens. These protect the room by preventing insects from entering and, if you live in a warm climate, provide excellent airflow during hot summer months. Screens cost far less than any other alternative, so if you are against getting permits, spending too much, or enclosing your porch in walls or glass, screens are the best choice.

While there is no one size that’s considered best, the sunroom size that’s best for you will come down to the size of your home and how you want to use your sunroom. Smaller sunrooms under 120 square feet provide a nice semi-outdoor sitting area, medium-sized sunrooms between 120 and 200 square feet can house an outdoor dining area and a small area for additional seating, and large sunrooms over 200 square feet can serve multiple purposes and even include an outdoor kitchen.

Your maintenance needs revolve around the type of foundation you choose, as well as how you furnish or decorate it. Patios require little else other than the occasional hose-down, but decks and other wooden structures will require annual power washing and sealing. You may also need to restain the wood every two to three years.

Adding a solid roof rather than building a pergola or leaving the space open will make maintenance much easier. Without a roof, you will need to spend more time sweeping, washing, and covering your furniture to protect it from UV bleaching.
