"Susannah is a GEM! We love her and will never hire anyone else to clean our house. She has great attention to detail and goes above and beyond. After she leaves, we just point out things she did such as “She cleaned my mouse pad!” or “She cleaned the toaster oven!” And praise her work. She is professional, reliable, and does such a good job. She is worth every single penny and more. We are so lucky to have her!!"

"I asked if they were Forbo certified to install Marmoleum. The installers were scheduled to get certified after the time I needed work done, but I was assured they were experienced and quality was their priority. With some hesitation about that and choosing the lowest cost of the few local linoleum installers, I hired them. I first saw their work when I returned from a business trip, so was stressed at the time and probably short on patience. Some seams were very tight while others had a noticeable black crack. There was debris on my counters and in my driveway, and a nail rusting in my sink. I believe they gouged a brand new wood threshold that they removed and reinstalled, when I think the wood flooring guy meant for them to butt the linoleum against it. There was miscommunication about a clawfoot tub. I paid them $175 to remove it and assumed that meant I didn't have to think about it. They meant that money covered physically moving it, but not disconnecting and reconnecting the plumbing. Because of the confusion, they removed that charge from the invoice. The initially also put the feet back on wrong so that an unpainted one was on the front while the painted one that should have been there was against the wall. They corrected this. Because of my dissatisfaction with the seams, the owner visited the site and offered to either heat weld them (heat welding was on the quote and is how the flooring in my office was installed - so I expected that) or fill them with linoluem dust/glue to fill the voids like you would fill wood voids with sanding dust. Because my schedule had changed, I asked that they do the second part of the job after training. After they returned to do the second part, I thought the edges were better, so tight to the walls I don't think I'm going to install shoe molding. But the seams were the same. Disappointed, I considered hiring someone else to come and heat weld. The next morning, I got a phone call that they would be back to fix the seams. After the, the look of the seams improved and now they are barely visible. Despite my earlier complaints about debris, they still left a few scraps of linloeum around: in the tub, in the bathroom shelves... I now wish I had them wait to install any of it and may have gotten the tighter edges in the first area too. I have a pretty good installation, but feel like I had to complain a lot and wait to get it. Throughout the time, my sales rep Meredith was excellent and really listened to my goals and motivation around the project. I felt comfort that she offered the nuclear option of tearing it up and reinstalling it if I wasn't happy with the seam re-work. I did not get that sense of being heard when the owner was onsite. I heard so many claims and assurances from him on each topic that I didn't even go through my whole list of issues because I thought we would be there all night. The crew could have been more conscientious. Overall I feel just ok about this project. I expect ne"

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

The difference between a 40-oz. and 60-oz. carpet is the carpet face weight, meaning the 60-oz. carpet weighs 20 ounces more per square yard. When looking at two similar carpets of the same material and type, the 60-oz. carpet face weight likely indicates higher quality and more durability due to heavier carpet fibers.

Carpet installation costs include carpet type (material, weave), room size, subfloor preparation, and labor costs. Getting multiple quotes provides a clearer picture of expected expenses.

A stair runner can be cheaper than a carpet and will definitely save money over the cost of refinishing hardwood floors and stairs. The price depends, however, on the fabric and quality of the runner. A wool stair runner can be more expensive than an inexpensive polyester carpet and vice versa. Keep an eye on your budget, knowing that the higher quality the carpet and the carpet pad, the better the carpet will wear over time.

Costs depend on carpet type, labor rates, and additional services like padding or transitions.

While it is possible to install carpet yourself, it is a challenging DIY project that requires precise measurement, proper cutting skills, and knowledge of correct installation techniques. The process involves multiple steps, including removing old flooring, installing underlayment and tack strips, and stretching the carpet to prevent wrinkles, which can take several days to complete.

Before starting, consider these factors:

  • Warranty: Many manufacturers' warranties are voided if the carpet is not installed by a professional.

  • Tools: You will need to buy or rent specialized equipment like a knee kicker, carpet stretcher, and seam roller.

  • Complexity: DIY installation is most suitable for simple, straightforward rooms. Projects involving stairs or floor vents are significantly more difficult.

  • Cost: While you can save on labor, the cost of tools plus the risk of expensive mistakes—which may require re-installation—can make hiring a professional more cost-effective in the long run.

Given the potential for errors, voided warranties, and the need for special tools, hiring a local carpet installer is often recommended to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.
