"They were exceptional! They treated my lawn and tree with exceptional care. The tree was a grandmother Birch that has stood in front of my front door for about 40 years, but it was her time to go. They took her down and cut the wood into 18 inch lengths. This will be donated to an elderly couple that need wood for heat."

"My experience with this company was great throughout the entire process: getting a quote, scheduling work, arriving on the scheduled date with equipment and workers to take down six trees, clean-up, and payment. I highly recommend On A Limb Tree Service."

"Josh was fabulous to work with. Very communicative, timely and professional. We had several trees that needed to be removed as they were too close to the house and he did a great job. Will be coming to NEK again for any future tree work."

"Alex and his team came to my property to remove a few trees that were far too large and leaning towards my house. They were able to drop the trees and their limbs with extreme accuracy. They cleaned up the job site very well. I would say they are very professional, talented and brave for climbing the way they do —and do prioritize and fully comply with safety procedures. Highly recommend! 5 stars *****"

"We found Vermonty by word of mouth and glad we listened. Outstanding demo job, clean, organized, and efficient. They worked smart and hard and handled a variety of obstacles in our old building, electrical, plumbing, and general construction related work. Would 10/10 recommend and hire again. Also- excellent communication throughout the job, young guys like this with old school work ethic and quality are hard to come by."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You don’t always need a permit to grind a stump, but you might need one depending on your location and the stump’s surroundings. Permits are often needed if the stump is part of a protected tree species, near public areas or utility lines, or close to environmentally sensitive zones like wetlands. Some cities also regulate noise and work hours. Always check local rules before grinding, and contact your city or county office if you're unsure.

It will take you anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours per tree stump to grind and remove the stump from the ground. The larger the size, the longer it will take to remove the stump. Also, keep in mind that rocky soil may require local excavation services to loosen up large boulders before you can begin to remove the tree stump.

Leaving the tree stump and letting it rot is never a good idea, as this leads to insect infestations and other frustrations. Additionally, decomposing trunks are at risk for diseases that spread out to the remaining plants and trees in the yard, thus ruining your whole outdoor aesthetic. It's usually best to remove the stump at the same time you remove the tree.

It’s not always easy to tell when a tree is dying, although signs like dropping branches and brittle bark can sometimes offer clues. It can also be difficult to know whether a tree is dead or dormant, especially if it’s a deciduous tree. You’ll want to wait until a growth season to get a good idea of a tree’s health. When in doubt, contact an arborist for a consultation.

Yes, pruning makes trees stronger because it fosters proper growth, weight distribution, and balance of the crown. By increasing the structural integrity of the tree through pruning, it’s less likely to experience disease, pests, broken limbs, and storm damage. Pruning the right branches and limbs is key to improving a tree’s strength and balance.
