"Jesus, from the start, was a kind, respectful, and reasonable man. He and his team delivered completely on the job. In addition, I had some flooring that needed to be addressed. Two rooms with pine flooring needed sanding and refinishing. I had slate tiles, purchased several years back, that needed to be installed. This was never part of the original discussion or estimate. He very kindly accommodated this request, again with an estimate that was reasonable. He and his team clearly care about service. This has been reflected in his reviews. I had to wait about a month before he could start the job and I can say it was worth the wait."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

The best flooring for radiant heat systems is tile, including porcelain, ceramic, and natural stone. These materials are excellent heat conductors, retain warmth well, and are waterproof, which prevents mold or rot in case of leaks from a hydronic system. Unlike wood, they do not pose a fire safety risk if the heating system overheats. Ceramic tile is a particularly popular choice as it is inexpensive, easy to install, and available in many styles, making it ideal for spaces like bathrooms. Other flooring types that work well with radiant heat include laminate, engineered wood, and vinyl. If you are installing radiant heating over a concrete slab, especially in a basement, it is advisable to install a vapor barrier first to prevent issues with moisture and condensation.

The cost of new flooring materials depends on the type of flooring, its quality, installation method, and additional features. While some options, like solid hardwood flooring, may be more expensive than carpet initially, others, such as vinyl and laminate, offer more budget-friendly alternatives. Ultimately, the overall expense can be influenced by factors like longevity, maintenance requirements, and desired aesthetic, making it essential to consider the long-term value of each material.

For rooms with an even number of feet (10 x 12, for example), you can technically just multiply them together to get the number of square feet in the room (10 feet x 12 feet = 120 sq. ft.). For irregularly shaped rooms or areas that aren’t even square feet, converting to inches will be your best bet for an accurate measurement.

There are several types of flooring options available for you to choose from. Each option has its durability factor to consider, as well as maintenance components. Some flooring options for you to choose from include:

  • Hardwood

  • Tile

  • Laminate

  • Linoleum

  • Carpeting

  • Stone

  • Cork

No, squeaky floors do not always mean there is structural damage. The noise is often caused by friction from issues like loose floorboards, gaps between the subfloor and joists, or loose subflooring. While many squeaks are harmless, persistent or worsening noise could indicate a more severe problem. If you notice other signs of structural damage—such as soft or sagging floors, cracks running from the wall to the ceiling, or horizontal cracks in your foundation—it's best to have a professional inspect your floor to determine the root cause.
