"Although we caught Steve and Jason Swingle at a convenient time on their schedule, the speed of their response to our inquiry was amazing.  We called Steve at 10:30; he was at our house by 11:00, and we agreed to his estimate by 11:15.  It turned out that Jason planned to finish another job that morning, so we arranged for him to do ours that same afternoon.  He arrived shortly after 1:00.  We were extremely impressed by his thoroughness.  We had neglected our patio for several years, and grit and grime had worked deeply into the brick.  Jason did at least three full wash applications, at the end of which the brickwork looked nearly as good as new.  He also provided some useful suggestions for maintenance.
This was first-class work, supported by first-class customer service.  We highly recommend this father-son team

"I inherited a property that had been used as a rental and neglected for a very long time. I hired Karnes Landscaping to cut down 3 trees and to trim the neighbors walnut tree that has been growing over the house for many years. Price was super reasonable even when the job turned out to be bigger than expected. The crew was friendly and William has also been helping me brainstorm other ideas in what to do with the rest of the landscaping on the property. I would definitely recommend."

"They have only completed half the house because extreme weather conditions (snow and ice) prevented them from coming back as planned. They will return to complete the job next week. They cleaned our upper two floors thoroughly including shampooing carpets. The windows were not quite as clean as I would have liked but they still did a good job. They began on the kitchen but did not get to finish. I can give a better report after January 13th"

"Went great. I was able to remove my old wood stove and window unit A.C. out of my shop after they installed my Mini split unit. They communicated very well with a detailed estimate, so there was no confusion. They were also able to put the unit exactly where I wanted it with no complications. Quick and effective. I wish I would have done it sooner. I'm a "repeat customer.""

"I worked extensively with Tom Palumbo and his crew and was extremely happy with the outcome. He worked within my tight budget to find materials that were very inexpensive but did not sacrifice the quality or appearance of the end product. I had quoted several other contractors that would either quote a much lower quality end product or a quality product that was way out of my price range. Tom's workers were very respectful and I felt very comfortable having them in my home throughout the entire project. The team customized the design to some of the unique nuances of my home with little to no impact on the budget and when I had some changes and that I felt needed to be addressed to make the design work better for my specific needs, the team was very accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure I was completely happy before the completed the work. Tom has very helpful with suggestions and thoughts for projects throughout my home which would maximize rentability and resale without over selling me on things that were unnecessary. I highly recommend Stoney Creek to anyone and I plan to use them again when I have jobs come up in the future.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

In many areas, a floating deck that isn’t connected to your home and stays under 200 square feet and below 30 inches in height may not need a permit. These freestanding structures are often considered low-risk, which can simplify the building process. However, building codes vary greatly based on location. Before investing in any home improvement project, check with your local permitting office for deck-building guidelines.

Yes, it is possible to build a small, basic deck for $5,000, particularly if you use less expensive materials and a simple design. To stay within this budget, consider a size under 10x12 feet and use affordable materials like pressure-treated wood or cedar. While the general cost for deck building ranges from $4,350 to $12,560, with an average around $8,200, some projects can be completed for as little as $4,350. You can also save on labor costs by doing the work yourself, but be aware that mistakes could end up costing more than hiring a professional. A contractor may have a higher upfront cost, but they can ensure a safe, stable deck that will last.

Generally, a patio is more accessible than a standard deck because patios are constructed at ground level. However, decks can be made accessible by adding a wheelchair-accessible ramp, a vertical lift, or a stair lift along the entry. An ADA-compliant deck ramp costs about $3,000 on average. The additional investment will provide a much friendlier experience for your guests with movement impairments.

A sunroom is worth installing on a deck, both for the value and your own enjoyment. A Florida room addition costs between $10,000 and $140,000, so it’s pretty expensive. However, a quality sunroom can offer a 50% return on investment, making your home more sellable. Plus, if it’s a space you and your family enjoy relaxing in daily for years to come, it’s worth the money, time, and effort, even without the added monetary value.

The time to build a vinyl deck varies based on factors like size, the complexity of the design, and weather conditions. Generally, a straightforward project might take a few days to a couple of weeks for preparation, installation, and any necessary inspections. However, larger or more intricate designs may extend the timeline. Timely acquisition of permits, efficient planning, and coordination with contractors will all help to make the construction process as smooth and quick as possible.
