"We needed 2 decks repaired and painted. So, we contacted several contractors, they wouldn't come out to our remote area. Finally, we contacted Handyman Services and they reassured us that they do perform work in our area. The guys showed up on time, completed the jobs as agreed and did a fantastic job that far exceeded our expectations! The final results are awesome! We have asked that they take care of a couple of other projects as well."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

The longest-lasting awning materials include vinyl, polycarbonate, and polyester for their durability and cleanability. Other materials like canvas and metal can last a long time, but may wear out faster. The key to getting the longest life from your awning material is to maintain it properly by cleaning yearly, keeping debris from gathering on it, and protecting it during stormy weather or high winds by retracting it or moving it to a protected area.

Awnings can be a serious investment for homeowners, particularly if it features a motorized and retractable design. Protect the exterior of your home by choosing a reliable and reputable contractor. Do some research ahead of time to get an idea of the potential contractor’s strengths and weaknesses. Don’t hesitate to give them a call to discuss specifics.

Yes, most awnings include warranties for materials and installation. Confirm terms before purchasing.

The average cost to build a pergola ranges from $2,200 to $6,400, whereas the average cost of an awning ranges from $1,400 to $4,400, meaning that an awning tends to be less expensive to build or install than a pergola. Ultimately, the less expensive option depends on a few factors, including size, quality of materials used, and location.

Stainless steel and copper are the most durable and will probably last the longest, especially when you compare them to fabric awnings. Steel is the most popular if your budget isn’t a top priority, but some people prefer copper awnings over steel because they are lighter, which makes them easier to install. Aluminum offers a more budget-friendly metal awning option that is still attractive and offers some durability, especially compared to fabric.
