"To summarize, I am very disappointed with my experience. Don't be fooled, during the sales portion about the use of the word "inspection", they didn't run any permits for my renovation and Franik only comes to check work every 2 or 3 days. The communication was great at the beginning of the project and just slowly got worse. Communication always picked up when it was time for a payment. The sales person Alejandro and the project manager Franik don't relay messages to each other which lead to confusion with the work. The subcontractors they use are looking to get in and out and they sacrifice attention to detail for time. It was a rotating door of sub contractors from day to day, if you wanted something done the next day there is a chance it won't be the same crew the next day. I had issues with multiple different crews trying to get rid of debris by stashing it in wall cavities that were opened from demolition. Work had to be redone for multiple small parts of the renovation because the crews never asked for input or Alejandro and Franik didn't explain things properly to them. Consider using someone else, anyone else."

Childproofing questions, answered by experts

The average cost of childproofing services is $410. This cost can range from $190 to $630 or more, depending on the size of your home and what services you need.

The location of the childproofing additions also plays a vital role in the overall cost. For example, a bathroom is relatively small and costs about $150 to fully childproof. However, if you have a swimming pool, you could spend as much as $1,500 to $10,000 to make it entirely safe for small children, including adding a pool fence.

Many parents, especially first-time parents, agree that professional childproofing is worth it. These professional childproofing services are trained to recognize dangerous home situations that many people would overlook until it's too late. Furthermore, professional childproofing experts have access to top-of-the-line equipment you can't purchase at most stores, providing longevity and peace of mind.

A professional childproofer will first survey your home to identify potentially dangerous locations, including stairs, cabinets, and pools. Once approved, your professional will order and install the safety equipment for you.

Some ways a childproofing professional will make your home safe include:

  • Anchoring large furniture

  • Installing safety gates

  • Installing safety latches on cabinets and drawers

  • Covering railings that could trap a child

  • Covering electrical outlets

  • Installing a swimming pool fence

  • Removing or covering electrical cords where possible

In many cases, you can DIY home childproofing with success. You can purchase childproofing tools like cabinet locks, outlet covers, and table-edge guards and install them easily.

However, it's best to have a professional childproofing service work on larger projects like pool safety or furniture anchoring. These safety measures can take a lot of time and effort to DIY, plus, you want to ensure the tasks are done correctly to keep your child safe.

While tamper-resistant outlets are effective at protecting children from the dangerous electrical outlets, few things can be truly childproof. Children may still try to imitate their parents and adults by inserting a plug into the tamper-resistant outlet. Hiding outlets behind childproofing covers is not an effective solution to this, as those covers can be removed or even swallowed. Tamper-resistant outlets are the safest option to keep children safe in your home, but be sure to always keep a close eye on young children around any outlets or electrical devices.
