Our backgrounds in horticulture, garden design, historic preservation and landscape architecture provide us with a unique and extensive plant and materials palette to draw from, allowing us to create elegant combinations of colors and textures. We offer financing for all projects over $25,000.

"BCLS began with rebuild of deck, then patio then retaining wall and then struggled to figure out what to do with landscaping. So first time patio flooded with drainage, then yard, and after numerous calls and emails (2 months) they came and dug up yard again and now water drains under new deck and collects. I am having to hire a reputable company to come in and fix what BCLS left me. Would not recommend BCLS, a landscaping company should know how to fix and plan for drainage."

Lawn Fertilization and Treatment questions, answered by experts

You should put pre-emergent herbicide and fertilizer on your lawn in the spring. Pre-emergent herbicide keeps weeds from taking root. Fertilizer helps your grass to grow lush and dense and blocks future weeds from growing. You can also add amendments, such as sulfur and lime, to enhance your soil quality.

First, you should figure out whether you have dormant or dead grass. Dead grass won’t come back, so you’ll have to reseed if you’re hoping for a lush lawn. However, grass can go dormant if it hasn’t received enough water or if temperatures are too cold. If it’s still decently warm outside, you can revive dormant grass by watering it. But if it’s mid-January in New England, for example, you’ll need to wait until the weather warms up again. If you want to keep grass green in winter, consider a grass like Kentucky bluegrass, which maintains its color year-round.

The decision of whether or not to let moss grow in your yard depends on your preference. Moss is a lower-maintenance alternative to grass that looks green and lush but doesn’t require irrigation, fertilization, or mowing. Unlike grass, moss doesn’t attract pests, so it can keep your yard free from bugs as well. However, moss won’t stand up to heavy foot traffic as well as turfgrass.

Professionals bring industry knowledge, can spot potential problems early, and tailor maintenance like fertilizing and weeding to your lawn's specific needs.

You can fertilize right after mowing as long as you've collected the clippings. If you leave grass clipping, they can form a mat that prevents the fertilizer from reaching the soil. Plus, grass clippings are rich in nitrogen, so if you leave them and then apply fertilizer, you can end up with too much nitrogen in the soil.
