Small jobs welcome

"Angie's List turned up Robin's Cleaning Service as a possible contractor for carpet cleaning. We went with her since she's independent and relatively local (Gretna). She came today, worked hard for over two hours to clean our Master BR and closet, lower staircase and roughly 1/4 of the lower living area, and did a lovely, attentive and thorough job for $225. Very pleasant--does carpets and other cleaning, painting, landscaping, mowing and pressure washing between morning and evening school bus driving for Gretna public schools (all three levels). Just a really sweet lady whom we enjoyed getting to know. If you have odd jobs, give her a chance. Robin Hall, 434-728-0529, is highly recommended! "Searching the internet for local cleaners to complete a deep clean prior to the holiday was a stressful and tedious process. I found NuClean through Angi ,requested a quote and they responded promptly. After patiently answering all of my questions (I ask a lot of questions..) regarding their services, I booked a deep cleaning (3 bed/3 bath). Taria and Josh arrived to our home as scheduled and greeted us as if we were friends who hadn’t seen each other in awhile. We have two dogs, so I took Taria & Josh on a quick tour of the home with a game plan to transfer the dogs. Dear reader.. When I tell you that upon completion of the bottom floor, I requested them to come back, I AM NOT KIDDING. As we simultaneously worked on laundry and other things in the house, it felt like we assembled a team of friends to help us get the house ready for a party. We absolutely loved having them in our home and they did an amazing job. (Amazing doesn’t even really cut it.. if you are thinking about it, do it. Just do it) We are so thankful that NuClean was able to see us, provide the type of clean that immediately makes you feel like a weight has lifted off of you, and have the opportunity to work with them again. Some say, when you want it done right, you have to do it yourself.. We are here to say you don’t, HIRE NuClean NOW, but don’t’ book them out so far they cant’t come back to our house!!"

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

You may get better coverage painting your baseboards if you do so before carpet is installed. The best course of action may be to attempt to paint them between having the old floor removed and the new floor laid, though this will render the room unusable for a period of time and may make the entire project a bit slower overall.

Carpet density refers to how closely together the fibers of a carpet are stitched into the carpet backing, with values ranging from 1,000 to 7,000. A carpet density value of 3,000 or higher is considered best for most homes, especially in high-traffic areas, such as a living room or dining room. If you’re comparing two carpets made of the same material, a higher carpet density can indicate better durability and longevity. However, carpet density is only one of many factors that can help you determine a carpet’s quality.

Installing carpet padding is mostly a matter of measuring the room and cutting the carpet pad to size with a utility knife. You can save some money on carpet installation costs by doing it yourself. Before installing the carpet padding, you should install the tack strips around the room’s perimeter and prepare the subfloor by cleaning and making any necessary repairs. Then, unroll the carpet pad and cut sections as needed. Staple the carpet pad to the subfloor along the edges, leaving the tack strips exposed.

Avoid plush, high-pile, or thick carpets on your stairs because they can increase the risk of slipping and wear down quickly in busy homes. Also, ensure the carpet you install is stain-resistant, particularly if you select a light color.

If the installer is unwilling to fix the problems and you’re not interested in seeking remediation, you could hide a visually unpleasant floor. This will only work if the floor is structurally sound and the only issue you have is the way it looks. The easiest way to do this is to use large area rugs. You can also paint the floor, although that’s a labor-intensive job if you want to go the DIY route.
