"My 1970's house had carpet installed over hardwood floors. When I bought it, the previous owners had ripped up the carpet to reveal those floors in need of repair. Mr. Biernot filled the many nail holes and refinished the floors beautifully. I have gotten many compliments on the beautiful matte finish. Highly recommend."

"We are about halfway through this job. Overall it has gone very well. This is a 150-year-old house and a 70-year-old guest house. Guest house almost completed, some electrical work remains. Original wood floors were completely redone in main house, looks great. Electrical work, some cabinetry and painting remain. With an old house, everyone expects unknowns to come up. Important not to let such work unduly disrupt the schedule. We are working together to get this done. Owner Brian Whatley did a great job of keeping us informed."

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

For most homeowners, quartz and quartzite countertops are similar in price. The average quartz countertop installation costs $80 to $220 per square foot, while quartz countertops cost $70 to $200 per square foot. Of course, there are outliers, like if you choose a highly customized, rare natural stone with high-end finishes.

Quartz countertops are relatively expensive, but they’re a very popular option because of their durability and attractive design. Some manufacturers also offer lifetime guarantees for their products. Even though they’re expensive, they could wind up being a one-time purchase.

Yes, but you will need the proper gas or electric lines running to the island. You will also need to factor in the costs of a range hood, also known as an extractor. There are several styles to choose from. An island extractor is a chimney-style range hood that hangs from the ceiling directly above your cooktop. A ceiling extractor fits flush into your ceiling above your cooktop, so it is less noticeable and allows for island extensions, such as hanging pot racks.

For a completely unobtrusive hood, you can choose a downdraft extractor. It is built into the island and can be raised when needed. Its downside is that it takes up space in the island’s cabinets. A venting cooktop is built into the cooktop, and it too takes up cabinet space.

Choosing the right countertop material means balancing price, quality, and budget. However, there are a few popular high-end choices when it comes to countertops that many homeowners use to elevate their bathroom aesthetic:

Marble is very porous, so it stains more than non-porous quartz. Exercise caution when drinking wine and juice or cooking with oil near the marble fixture.
