Yes, adding wiring for a ceiling fan where there is none requires an electrician to build the electrical infrastructure. You should not attempt to do this job yourself, as electrical work can be dangerous without experience. All told, the job is a big one, and it might cost up to $2,000.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor.
