After spending thousands to get hookups installed for laundry and doing some other projects, they talked me into joining their Champions Club that had several "free" maintenance visits per year. After one of these visits, when I refused some of their suggested repairs, they sent an insulting email asking "What's holding you back?" I guess the initial thousands of dollars I had spent wasn't enough, and now they're treating me like someone who is having financial problems. I replied to their email to let them know that it was offensive, but nobody ever responded. If you try to cancel and leave the Champions Club before the year is over, you have to pay for any of the free services you used. Another "benefit" of the Champions Club is their priority scheduling, saying they will bump you to the front of the line, in front of other non-members. But if you don't read the fine print, this only applies to repairs, and not to any of the maintenance services. When I tried to get the free AC Tune-Up done before summer, they said they couldn't see me until the end of September. I waited until the end of September in my home without air conditioning until the day of my appointment finally arrived. They said they would be there between the hours of 1pm and 6pm. I got a text at 5:30pm saying they needed to reschedule because their technician had something come up. This was the first communication I got from them that day. Needless to say, they lost a customer. And I am counting down the days until I can safely cancel my Champions Club membership without any penalty so that it doesn't renew for another year. My advice, choose any other HVAC company, but read through the reviews first."

Mold in HVAC ducts is a relatively common issue that homeowners struggle with—especially in humid climates or homes with poor ventilation. Moisture from condensation, combined with dust and organic debris, creates the perfect environment for mold growth. The simplest way to know if your return air vent is working properly is to test it. Take a piece of tissue or paper (the thinner, the better) and hold it up alongside the air return. If the return air vent is working as expected, it should suck the paper toward the vent. 

It’s possible to remove too much humidity from the air, but it’s very unlikely. Dehumidifiers have moisture sensors and settings to control how they function, so they can pause when the air inside your home reaches a certain humidity level. This means that most modern dehumidifiers won’t dry out the air to the point where it’s uncomfortable. But older, more basic dehumidifiers that are left on too long could potentially dry out the air so much that your skin, hair, and sinuses start to feel dry.

While you can attempt to remove mold from ductwork using a mixture of water, baking soda, and laundry detergent, flexible ducts are fragile and may tear when you scrub at the mold to remove it. If you suspect mold is growing in your flexible ductwork, it’s best to contact a professional for help.

There are a few things that you can look out for that indicate that you need duct sealing, but the two most critical ones are less comfortable air in your living space and increased utility bills. If you notice that you’re paying more often for HVAC servicing and maintenance, that could suggest that you need duct sealing, as well, as leaks put added strain on your system. You may also notice musty odors in parts of your home, as leaks can lead to condensation on your air ducts that can promote mold growth behind your walls.
