"Work was performed quickly at a great price. There was a mistake somewhere with the order where the windows sent by Milguard didn't contain argon as we had ordered. Homestar was great to work with to get this problem corrected free of charge. This was almost 4 years ago and we have loved our windows. As I've worked with other contractors as we have remodeled our house, I have realized how great Homestar was to work with, and how well and efficiently they were able to do the job"

"Caleb was great to work with! He did an outstanding job and the kitchen looks great! I have very old cabinets which are difficult and needed some rehab. They look brand new! I also needed some hardware fixed and he came immediately to help me! I will definitely hire him again and have already referred him to my Mom!"

"Brock got back to me quickly and was able to come to my home right away. He was professional, on time and did an awesome job on repairs that needed to be done in my home. He installed a ceiling fan, replaced a broken thermostat and cleaned out a clogged dryer vent. I had a great experience with Done Right and would highly recommend to others!"

"They were efficient in terms of the process. They sent the pad in a reasonable time frame. I did have to call a couple times. It took about a month to deliver. They sent the material which was packed nicely. There were 2 issues: 1-the glue or adhesive they used smelled badly. I had to put in my garage for a couple weeks until that 2-every corner was protruded, the table pad corners were too sharp on the mat .which poses risks with small children. I called about that and they said to put some tape over it. The manager called back to discuss the issue was. She suggested that I try to fix. it. The company might have done something to repair if I had followed up."

"The cabinet shop and granite fabricator/installer selected and used by Dan of D & D were excellent, with absolutely no issues in regard to workmanship, schedule and quality.  D & D provided excellent service, and excellent craftsmanship installing all of the cabinets.  If there was one issue, which was minor, clean up could have been a bit better, but overall; pricing was excellent,  quality was excellent, and the cabinets and granite counter tops in the kitchen and the three bathrooms look magnificent.  I would in the future, and have already recommended Dan Shumway - D & D Custom to others who are equally pleased.  D & D Custom are first rate!"

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.
