"Brandon was wonderful! I had a rain gutter falling off my house and could not find anyone to fix it. Then Brandon answered the call. He came by (Apple Valley) after working in St.Geo. it was getting late, sun going down but he showed up. Did a great job. I was so relieved to finally get that fixed. And what a great guy! Enjoyed talking with him. Thanks so much, Kay"

"We hired Alan Caplin (on the advice of Michele Musser, A Friend Handyman) to look at four wooden telephone pole sized supporting columns in our patio to see what could be done. He was very knowledgeable and helped my wife select decorative stone from Environmental Stone Works which was a perfect complement to our external walls and our view of the mountains. He and his assistants performed the work for us. He built metal brackets around the wooden poles, put Durock Cement Board on those brackets and attached the decorative stone to that. It turned out beautifully. We are beyond pleased. We cannot recommend him highly enough."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Whether or not it’s easier to cut wood when it’s wet versus dry depends largely on the type of tool you use and the wood you’re cutting. For example, a chain saw should still be able to cut through wet wood with relative ease, but it may be more difficult to maneuver due to the wood fibers sticking to the chains of the saw.

However, you might want to avoid cutting wood entirely when it’s wet if you’re pruning your tree. Sawing a wet tree that you don’t plan on removing can also encourage bacterial and fungal growth and decay.

On average, the cost to hire a carpenter ranges from about $75 to $100 per hour, depending on the type of carpentry, location, size of the job, and skill level of the carpenter. Get quotes from at least three carpenters in your area to determine the best price for your specific project.

If you don’t have a coping saw, you can use an angle grinder to cope crown molding, but it takes a little more precision. Place your molding down on your workbench, angle the grinder at a 45-degree angle toward the molding, and back cut the wood. You’ll need to carefully angle your grinder to accommodate the curves in the wood, and aim to remove around 1 inch from the profile of the molding.

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Yes, carpenters can fix squeaky floors. They have the expertise to identify the source of the squeak, whether it’s loose floorboards, subfloor issues, or joist problems. These experts also have the right tools and hands-on knowledge to secure the flooring and eliminate the noise, ensuring a long-lasting solution.
