"We used Salt City for our custom closet build. Marinda and her team we incredible. Marinda is incredibly knowledgeable about Closets. The other companies we talked to just put together what felt like a cookie cutter design. Marinda asked US what we needed in our space and then created something that fits our needs perfectly. Highly recommend."

"NOTE: I signed up for a deal to clean and organize my garage. Instead I had furniture removed from inside my home. Therefore, this review is not about The Deal I purchased, but about work done from the same company listed with Angie's List.

Alex from Junk Jr. and his partner moved 4 large solid-wood heavy bookcases, 1 smaller heavy bookcase, a chest of drawers removing it from a small closet. a large particle board computer desk with file cabinet and shelf. a cabinet with door and drawer and two heavy sliding wooden doors from my subbasement area. They were careful to avoid routers, modems, cables etc. The area was filthy and they didn't bat an eye. They handled moving around corners, through narrow spaces and up stairs and through the garage without complaint. Very professional. I only needed to explain once what was needed and they didn't even have to take notes.
They were perceptive, offered good advice, and I have to mention the empathy they expressed at my distress because it was an emotional issue for me. These were items built by my late husband, and I burst into tears. How very kind they were!
I had contracted for a garage clean-up, yet they were flexible in changing to moving items from the sub-basement. I had discussed it with Cameron, who explained the price would go up from $119 to $169, the normal price their work, and I was not able to use the deal. He was calm and reassuring about my error and I had bought the deal last December 2014. Perhaps since The Deal doesn't expire until June, I can still use it for the garage.
I can't say enough good things about Junk Jr.
Smiling and friendly, and fast. On time.
Very professional.
It's worth it to potential clients out there to remind you, I contracted for 4 man hours and two men equals 2 hours. Very little of the time was spent talking, but they did have to explain what they would do and ask what I wanted. And the advice from Angie's list to know what you want done & have it ready to go is so important.
I am going to purchase another deal with them through Angie's, and as I have been scammed in the past, it is reassuring to know there are reliable, bonded and licensed contractors with the company.
I was hoping to receive a paper stating the items were donated, so I could use the donations for my taxes. I will contact Cameron.

Closets questions, answered by experts

You can design your own closet, but it’s usually better to hire a professional to do the work for you. Not only will you get years of design experience to guide you toward the right layout and material choices, but you’ll also only pay slightly more hiring a professional than you would creating your own plans and hiring a carpenter. A high-quality closet designer can provide insight into how to lay out your closet, and they may be able to find you a good deal on the carpentry or complete the work using an affordable, in-house team.

Although you can complete a closet frame in just an afternoon, finishing the entire closet will take a few days to a week. However, that’s still not as much as the average time it takes to remodel a closet, which can take anywhere from several weeks to more than a month. That’s because you also have to consider the time it will take to demolish the existing space, plan a new design, order materials, and actually install it.

On average, building a custom or built-in closet costs around $2,100. However, the total price can range from as little as $500 for a simple DIY project to $6,000 or more for a large, high-end custom closet. Most projects typically fall between $1,500 and $5,000.

The final cost depends on several factors, including the closet's size, type, materials, and features. Here is a general cost breakdown by closet type:

  • Reach-in closet: $500 to $1,500

  • Walk-in closet: $750 to $5,000

  • Wardrobe: $2,000 to $6,000 or more

Choosing a prefabricated closet system is generally less expensive than a fully custom build. The scope of design and construction services will also significantly impact the price.

Yes, adding a built-in or custom closet generally increases your home's value and makes it more attractive to potential buyers. A well-designed closet adds utility, organization, and a touch of luxury, which are appealing selling points. Most homeowners see a return on investment (ROI) of 50% to 60%; for example, a custom closet can add about $1,000 to your home's value on average. The specific ROI depends on the type, with custom walk-in closets typically providing more value than reach-in closets. However, to maximize value, ensure the closet doesn't significantly detract from the room's usable square footage. Converting an entire room into a closet can actually lower your home's value. Similarly, using overly lavish materials may not recoup their cost. A good strategy is to add a closet that takes square footage from a non-living area, such as a garage, to create a mudroom closet.

The differences between a built-in closet and a walk-in aren’t that different from a built-in wardrobe and a walk-in closet. It’s fairly simple—a walk-in closet is a closet you can physically enter, stand in, and walk around in. A built-in (whether wardrobe or closet) is more akin to covered shelves installed into a recess in the wall. Another big difference is walk-in closets almost always have traditional full-size doors, while built-ins either have no doors or use sliding doors.
