Keep in mind some materials are more likely to stain and chip than others, which is an important factor to consider when it comes to the longevity of your countertops. Avoid using harsh, gritty, or abrasive cleaners and sponges on Formica countertops. This includes steel wool, scouring pads, and strongly alkaline or acidic cleaning products like chlorine bleach, oven cleaner, drain cleaner, furniture polish, or vinegar. If you are building a laminate countertop from scratch, instead of buying premade laminate countertops, you can use particle board underneath the laminate. You will need to use a sheet of particle board for the substrate, along with four-inch strips underneath the edges. For proper installation, make sure that any seams are level and use a sander as necessary before installing the laminate.
The best way to protect your quartz countertops is to keep them clean. Promptly wipe any spills and clean with a damp cloth and dish soap as needed. Doing a deeper clean weekly is also recommended. To do this, move small appliances and fruit bowls out of the way and wash the entire surface with a squirt of dish soap on a damp cloth.
