The technician, Trenton Brown, was able to come in and walk me through what was damaged and in need of repair and was upfront with the costs of repair and replacement. If you’re working with a smaller budget, a low-cost coating such as paint, sealer, or stain might be the best way to express your style in the garage. If you need a high-performance surface that can handle the tough projects and maintenance you do in the garage, or if you want a wide range of colorful customization options, flexible tiles might be for you.

When you’re painting a garage floor, it’s best to use a combination of rollers and brushes. You’ll want to start with a brush, making a border around the edges where the floor meets the wall. From there you can use a roller, though some people also like to do the entire first coat with a brush because it’s easier to work the paint into the textured concrete.

You’ll usually need to prime a garage floor before painting—especially if the floor is unpainted. Garage floors are made from concrete, which is porous and produces dust. The dust can contaminate the paint and cause issues with adherence. 

Primer creates a barrier and gives you a clean surface to work on. It also minimizes absorption to help give you an even, pro-looking paint job. Make sure you choose a primer that’s specifically designed to cover concrete flooring.

With the exception of small, lightweight torsion-spring garage doors, which can operate with one spring, most garage doors require two springs to work properly. Garage doors with extension springs always require two springs—if one extension spring is broken or otherwise failing, the garage door may open unevenly and could pose a hazard if the remaining spring fails.
