"Chris Trease is an EXCELLENT Design Consultant. He provided 3 bid options. When I chose Utah Flooring and Design, he left carpet samples with me as I had severely injured my back and could not get to the downstairs apartment where we needed to replace carpeting due to severe damage by renters. He helped me choose the type of carpeting I wanted during the consultation on May 29 but I could not make the color choice because of the above. Chris did not rush me to make a decision about the color. I was finally able to get downstairs late in the afternoon of June 1, after a second chiropractic treatment. Chris ordered the carpet that evening and it was installed on June 11. The installers were FABULOUS. The only reason I gave a 4.5 instead if a 5 for customer service is because I was not informed of a later arrival time than the one I expected. I called Chris and he took care of it and the installers made up for the difference. The individual who forgot to call me about the time change DID APOLOGIZE and ADMIT her MISTAKE, so I APPRECIATE that SHE TOOK OWNERSHIP. As a small business owner myself, that meant a great deal to me. I highly recommend Utah Flooring and Design for the integrity of their employees and their hard working, pleasant, funny installers. They made me laugh on a VERY HARD DAY!! Thank you so much Chris, we HOPE to be working with you again in the future. Glynneth B. Orem, Utah"

"Work was performed quickly at a great price. There was a mistake somewhere with the order where the windows sent by Milguard didn't contain argon as we had ordered. Homestar was great to work with to get this problem corrected free of charge. This was almost 4 years ago and we have loved our windows. As I've worked with other contractors as we have remodeled our house, I have realized how great Homestar was to work with, and how well and efficiently they were able to do the job"

"company exceeded my expectations. The craftsmanship of the window well covers is truly outstanding. The attention to detail and precision in the welding work is evident in the final product. Not only do the covers look fantastic, but they are also incredibly sturdy and fit perfectly over my window wells, providing both functionality and aesthetic appeal to my home. Overall, I cannot recommend highly enough. If you are in need of custom window well covers or any welding services, look no further. This company sets the standard for excellence in craftsmanship, service, and overall customer experience."

"Simply cannot say enough good things about John. He gave a great competitive price quote with no last minute changes. He provided timelines for the work and stuck to them. He offered options for our blinds which we were not even aware existed but were perfect for needs and personal style. He also went out of his way to work on developing a way for us to recharge them without climbing up on a ladder. We had motorized blinds installed in our lower level and plan to have John come back next year for our second floor."

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

Depending on the window style and your home's layout, you can install replacement windows from either the inside or the outside. Many installations are done from the inside because it allows for better access and weather protection, but some exterior installs are easier for certain types of siding or trim. The key is choosing the approach that gives you the best access to the frame while keeping the existing structure intact.

Yes, you can enlarge windows in a brick house. Your masonry contractor will need to cut away exterior brick to make space for the larger window, and you may also need to consult a structural engineer to make sure the window is properly supported inside the frame of the house.

The best thing to clean windows with is a mixture of white vinegar, warm water, and dish soap. This will remove dirt, pollen, and grime without destroying any tints or protective films on your glass. You can also use a commercial window cleaner, but make sure to choose one that doesn’t have ammonia in it, as this can damage window coverings and frame materials over time.

Window capping costs between $1 and $2 per linear foot. Since your average window size is 24 by 36 inches, you’re looking at 10 linear feet in total, or $10 to $20 per window. Labor adds another $30 to $100 per hour to the project. If you have custom windows, you’ll spend more to have your windows capped. Fiberglass tends to cost more than vinyl and aluminum, while vinyl costs the least but has the shortest lifespan and may have a higher long term cost.

The average lifespan for a casement window is around 20 years, but some higher-end casement windows with more durable frame materials can last up to around 40 years before you need to replace them. You’ll need to carry out routine maintenance and window cleaning—and, on occasion, casement window restoration—to extend the lifespan of your casement windows. But they tend to wear more slowly than windows with sliding sashes because the weatherstripping sees minimal friction.
