"I would like t have had the experts name, so I could call on him again. The only thing I didnt like was there was a brand new thermostat on the wall and he changed it and took it with him, we could have used it on another furnace, it was new. "Absolute Air (AA) is the second company I've had at the house and will be the first one I'll call the next time I need HVAC service. I've dealt with a zone damper problem for over two years that is finally fixed. However, I called (AA), because my AC stopped cooling correctly. They discussed my problem over the phone and gave me some troubleshooting ideas, after which I was able to fix the cooling problem immediately without cost or without having to endure a hot house in the middle of summer. They fixed my damper problem a couple of days later after getting the part. Caleb and Tom were great. It was obvious that they both cared about providing the best service possible."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can put an AC unit on the roof of your home or commercial building. For proper installation, you’ll need to ensure the roof surface is flat, it’s accessible for maintenance and cleaning, and an AC installation pro agreed that your home is a candidate for package units. Don’t forget to consider the climate in your area, as homes that experience frequent tropical storms or hurricanes may not benefit from this type of system.

Deciding whether to replace just the AC coil or the entire system depends on the age of your unit and the overall cost. Replacing a coil is less expensive than a full system replacement, but it can still be a pricey repair. If your HVAC system is relatively new and still under warranty, or if the replacement cost is significantly lower than a new system, replacing the coil can be a worthwhile investment that restores efficiency and extends the unit's life. However, for older systems (nearing the end of their 10-15 year lifespan) or those with extensive damage, it is often more cost-effective to replace the entire AC unit. Mismatched coils in an older system can lead to inefficiency and future breakdowns, so a full replacement ensures optimal performance and avoids further costly repairs.

One of the fastest ways to unfreeze an AC unit is to turn off the unit and, if it’s warm outside, use the fan-only mode to help blow warmer air through the unit to speed up the defrosting process. While it may be tempting to use a hair dryer to defrost the air conditioner, that high heat can damage the coils.

After defrosting, if you can safely solve the issue with a fix like changing the filter, go ahead and do so. Otherwise, call in a pro before turning your AC back on.

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.

An AC inspection costs anywhere from $75 to $200, while a full HVAC system inspection that includes your furnace ranges from $200 to $450. While there's a cost to a home AC inspection, it can save you hundreds or thousands in the long run by catching problems, avoiding breaks, and saving you money on your utility bills.
