"Everything went fine only problem is the tech that came out the first time was here for about 2 hours (actually less) I didn’t mind paying the 2 hour minimum. Had to call them out again because, my sink was leaking again! The same tech came out again and said that the basket strainer was improperly installed which means it was part of the problem when he was here the first time! So I was charged another 2 hour minimum because he didn’t do his job properly! So I am out of pocket not only the $500 that the previous guy charged me but, now the almost $400 for the first time Stricklands came out and almost $300 the second time today! So I have paid $1200 for just 1 freaking drain!"

Yes, unfortunately, scorpions do come up through air vents on occasion if they’re not properly sealed. These pests are excellent at finding small openings and may use vents as a pathway to cooler areas inside, especially during hot weather. To prevent this, inspect your vents, seal any gaps, and install fine mesh screens where necessary.

Freon circulates through your AC unit in a closed loop, so ideally, all of it should remain inside your system and never need to be replaced. However, if your AC starts leaking Freon (which is common), you’ll need to top it up. You can run the heating or cooling units in individual rooms and turn off the units in the rooms you aren’t using. This method allows you to save about 30% off your energy bill compared to a ducted system.

If possible, avoid placing furniture in front of a return air vent. A blocked air vent can cause your HVAC system to use more energy, which in turn can lower the life span of your unit and raise your energy bill. Furniture can also trap hot or cold air, damaging your furniture or appliances. 

Professional duct installers suggest leaving between six and 12 inches of space in front of an air return vent. If you must place furniture in front of a return air vent, try to aim for putting furniture over a floor vent instead of in front of a wall vent, and avoid draping curtains over any vent system.

There are several AC unit problems to troubleshoot, but luckily you can identify them by keeping a close eye on your system. Look out for the following signs that your AC needs repair:

  • Unusual noises during operation

  • AC unit blows warm air

  • AC unit doesn’t come on or turn off with temperature changes
