"Ben Wilson Plumbing came through for me, at a time of great desperation, there was a blockage in the sewer pipes of my house, and they came out the same day, I called to inquire about their services. My children and I had been living in our home with backed up sewer water in both our bathrooms, and all the drains in the house, for 3 days, it was miserable. I waited for my home warranty to send someone out, and after two days of waiting with no response, I got desperate and found Ben Wilson Plumbing through Home Advisor, they did not price gouge me, and they made time to come to my home to provide my family relief from that smelly, disgusting sewer water backed up in my home. Thank you, so much for your excellent customer service, compassion, expedient, and flawless work! I would recommend to everyone, this is your company for all your plumbing needs."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Never pour used motor oil down the drain. Doing so can have serious environmental consequences, including contaminating groundwater, endangering animals, and killing vegetation. It can also clog your pipes, causing backups in your plumbing or the wastewater treatment plant. In most places, pouring motor oil down the drain is illegal, whether you do it in your home or a storm drain.

Grease buildup, tree roots, and foreign objects often cause blockages. Regular maintenance prevents major issues.

You’ll need to stop or pause the machine using its control panel to start the draining process mid-cycle. Remove the items inside, turn off the power to the machine, and then follow the steps above to drain the machine manually.

Pouring drain cleaner down a vent pipe isn’t recommended. First of all, unlike a clog in a sink or bath caused by such material as soap scum build-up, toothpaste, and hair, clogs in a vent pipe are likely the result of debris from trees or even an animal stuck in the pipe. Drain cleaners won’t be able to eat through this kind of material. The cleaner will only become clogged in the vent with the debris, causing even more problems.

There are several common signs that your main sewer line may be clogged. Key indicators include multiple fixtures in your home draining slowly, gurgling sounds coming from drains or toilets, and water backing up into showers, sinks, or toilets. You might also notice water backing up from the plumbing system's drain cleanout, water in your basement drain, or unexplained wet patches on your lawn. Foul odors, such as the smell of raw sewage or rotten eggs, are another common symptom. The most reliable way to confirm a main sewer line clog is to hire a professional plumber to perform a camera inspection.
