Before any work was performed ?Automatic Gates of South Texas? took the time to explain and walk me through the whole job. They were also very open to any questions and suggestions that I had.

I was not living in the house that had the gate repaired and automated at the time. ?Automatic Gates of South Texas? does not require you to be present for them to do the work but I wanted to be there. They were very flexible and accommodating with their scheduling, so that I could be present during the whole repair and installation process. Due to my schedule we had to divide the work into two separate work sessions several weeks apart. During this whole repair/installation process ?Automatic Gates of South Texas? was very easy to get a hold of and were quick to return my phone calls when I left messages.

The individuals who did the repair of the gate and installation of the automated motor control system were very knowledgeable and easy to approach when I had questions.

My first impression is that these folks are professionals and trust worthy. There were several time when I had to leave the house while they were still working on the installation and I felt comfortable doing so.

1St  Session:

  • Installed and routed electrical conduit. They took time to discuss the options I had for routing the conduit. Once the conduit path was decided on the installation was very professionally done.

  • Installed electrical wiring all the way back to the breaker box with a dedicated breaker (labeled) for the ?Gate motor? power (110 ac). All the electrical work was done by the owner of the company who is a licensed ?Texas Master Electrician? and licensed ?Texas Electrical Contractor?. The electrical installation was very neat and professional. You can tell these guys are professionals just by looking at the quality of the work that they do.

  • Installed gate sensor wiring. Instead of cutting a grove in the driveway for the sensor wiring as I had expected they ran the wiring through the V-metal channel that the gate rides on. It was a little more work to do it this way but the end result was a very neat installation and my driveway did not have to be cut and patched.

  • Once they were done for the day the job site was picked up and left clean.

2Nd Session

  • Repaired/replaced receiver post brackets with heavy duty brackets (welded).

  • Also replaced original brackets on gate guide posts with heavy duty brackets (welded).

  • Installed heavy duty anchors for all new post brackets.

  • Fabricated and welded gate extension to accommodate ?Automatic Control Gate System and Motor?.

  • Fabricated and welded all needed brackets for the gate chain assembly.

  • Replaced old gate wheels with 4? commercial grade sealed bearing power wheels.

  • Modified/adjusted and checked gate for proper operation (unobstructed tracking & closing).

  • Fabricated/welded and anchored metal pedestal to gate guide post and concrete. This pedestal was used to support the motor package about 18? above ground level. This keeps the control and motor package out of the water when it rains and away from the mower when mowing/weed eating, good idea.

  • Installed/adjusted and tested ac/dc watertight motor and control package.

  • Installed/adjusted and tested gate sensors for proper operations.

  • Synchronized all remotes to automatic gate control system and garage door opener.

  • All fabricated and welded brackets were painted black to match existing gate.

  • Once they were done for the day the job site was picked up and left clean.

The technicians took time to explain the maintenance (almost maintenance free system) and the operation of the new automatic gate system. They also explained how to properly use the new gate and garage door remotes (very simple to use).

"Found Chapa's on Angie's List as highly rated and gave them a call. Artenio was out quickly and was very friendly and knowledgeable. Repaired several issues with door and replaced a broken spring. He showed up on time, explained what was going on and how it happened and then fixed all the issues. This was a very good experience - highly recommend and will use him in the future.

Garage Doors questions, answered by experts

Garage door sensors work by using infrared beams to detect objects in the door’s path. One sensor sends a beam while the other receives it. When the beam is broken—say, by your car or anything else—the sensors signal the door to stop or reverse. It’s all about safety and making sure nothing gets trapped under the door. If they’re misaligned, the beam doesn’t connect, and the garage door might stay open or close regardless of obstructions.

Yes, you can pressure wash epoxy floors, but you must take precautions to avoid damaging the surface. While most epoxy floors can be cleaned with a mop, you might choose to pressure wash if the floor is stained, has ground-in dirt, or is covered with mold or mildew. To do so safely, first soak any stains or dirty areas with a gentle cleanser. Use a lower pressure setting with a gentle nozzle, such as a green, white, or black tip, or a 45-degree angled tip. Keep the spray nozzle at least 18 inches away from the floor to protect the surface. Using a surface cleaner attachment or a rotary scrubber can also help prevent overspray. Be cautious if using a power washer that heats the water, as the combination of heat and pressure may be too powerful and could damage the epoxy coating.

Faux wood garage doors provide the best insulation for garages. This style is commonly insulated with polyurethane foam—a thermal conductor—that retains heat and keeps you and the inside of your garage warm.

With so many vastly different options to choose from, how can you find an inexpensive garage floor that you can also confidently say is the best? The right solution will be different for everyone and truly depends on your individual needs and stylistic tastes.

If you’re working with a smaller budget, a low-cost coating such as paint, sealer, or stain might be the best way to express your style in the garage. If you need a high-performance surface that can handle the tough projects and maintenance you do in the garage, or if you want a wide range of colorful customization options, flexible tiles might be for you.

Getting a garage door tune-up is worth it. Tune-ups are a form of preventative maintenance that help extend a garage door's lifespan and prevent dangerous issues, like worn springs or misaligned sensors. The cost to get a garage tune-up is far less than letting problems get out of hand and causing costly repairs—or worse—injuries.
