"Not only were they very informative and educated us on the pond and its workings, they were always prompt and hard working. Their knowledge of their trade was very impressive, strongly recommend this company. Our pond and waterfalls have never functioned as well as they do now."

"We are happy with the service Powell Landscapes provided for our landscape project. Tyler was quick to reply to our bid request. He kept us informed along the way. He did what he said he would do for the price he quoted. We appreciated that we were always able to reach him by phone. We plan to work with him on other projects in the future and we would recommend him to others."

"Leon is the best!! In my six years of property management I've never seen an apartment so dirty and demolished. Leon came the next day and worked endlessly until the job was done. Him and his team were very polite and friendly. (Despite the horror inside) They took out all of the trash, broken fixtures, and even the carpet. And then cleaned the whole apartment!! I would recommend his company to anyone."

"Todd was a pleasure to work with. Showed up did the quote and we gave him the job. Within a weeks time we started having ground work done and all around about two weeks the job was finished. We are also considering him for others jobs that he is capable of doing within the next month or two."

Fountains questions, answered by experts

Though there are a lot of factors that go into caring for a koi pond, the most important maintenance you can do is frequent water checks using a koi pond test strip that checks the water for dangerous conditions.  In addition to regular pond maintenance costs, you’ll also need to winterize your koi pond if you live in a colder area.

In addition to length and width, pond liners also come in various thickness levels. Thickness is measured in mils, a unit of measurement equal to one-thousandth of an inch, with most pond liners ranging from 15 to 60 mils in thickness. The smaller the number, the thinner (and weaker) the liner. To prevent rips and tears, it’s best to choose a pond liner that’s at least 30 mils thick.

Lifespans vary by material and manufacturer, but pond liners last anywhere from 10 to 75 years. For example, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pond liners have a life expectancy of up to 20 years. Other types of pond liners, including those made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), can last 40 to 50 years.

When deciding whether or not to turn off your pump, you should consider your area’s climate and the aquatic life in your pond. If you live in an area with freezing winter temperatures and don’t have any wildlife, keeping your pump on could damage it. If you have aquatic life but live in a colder climate, you might consider keeping your pump running and adding a pond heater.

You can choose several types of fountains to add to your backyard, ranging in size, number of basins, and special water features.

Check out the price ranges of common fountain types:

  • Birdbath fountains: $40 to $1,100

  • Cascading fountains: $40 to $2,000

  • Tiered fountains: $100 to $6,000

  • Kugel fountains: $150 to $5,000

  • Glass wall fountains: $100 to $3,000
