The rep called another employee at Shafer and asked him to bring a replacement 40 Gallon Rheem water heater, which he said would be better and more reliable than the Bradford White one I had. The two men disconnected the old heater and carefully removed it from the attic down the swing down trap door in the ceiling, then hauled up the new one and got it all connected. The work included installing an expansion tank which was required by code, new lines, better valves, and fixing the leaking drainage pipe from the catch pan. They also moved the water heater location so it properly lined up with the roof vent pipe, which wasn't even connected to the old water heater thanks to the roofers I had a few years ago who never took care of it properly. When all was said and done the work done was excellent and no mess was left behind, nor any damage I could see. I was told to give the system about 45 minutes to get hot water and the rep helped me make sure the air was bled out of the lines and water was flowing. No issues with the hot water so far. That night out of curiosity I decided to look at the prices of the new water heater they installed. Probably a bad idea. The retail cost was around $550-600! So I felt like maybe I had been taken advantage of. The invoice I was provided didn't break out the pricing of the individual items other than the water heater at $1450 or so for the water heater, the expansion tank (around $140) and the attic access (around $215). So I assumed labor and materials were built into the $1450 cost but $800+ seemed excessive. So I wrote an email to the company that night expressing my concern about the pricing and asking for a breakdown of the costs to justify the amount spent. At 8:30 the next morning I got a call from Charlie Shafer. He seemed very nice and politely explained that all plumbing companies these days are rolling all their costs into single line items, but that the $800+ included the labor, materials, and city permits required, as well as the 1-year warranty they provide if anything goes wrong. He stated he regularly compares his pricing to other vendors and strives only for a 10% profit margin. He said his prices are very competitive compared to others in the area. He also said I could have bought the heater myself and the overall cost would likely have been a bit less, but that he then couldn't warrant the system (not sure if that was just the heater, or the entire job). In any case, he didn't seem like he was out to gouge me but I still thought the price to be a bit high. Regardless, overall I'm very satisfied with their willingness to be there the same day and fix the problem, their punctuality and courteousness, the solid work they did and the professionalism getting the job done. Even the prompt follow-up call to clarify the costs. So even if turns out to be true that I spent more than I should have, there is something to be said about a job well done. However, that was not the cause of the leak. He determined it was in the wall/slab. However, he then let me know that he was not a "full-service" plumber, and I would have to call another plumber to fix the leak (which was primary reason for the service call). While he performed many tasks, the time it took seemed excessive, and it ended up being several hours over my two-hour $99 deal just for the replacement tasks. When getting quotes from other plumbers as a comparison, I was quote about half the amount of time it took to complete. And, I ended up going through FOUR more plumbers until I found the right team for the job. Meanwhile, I had more and more water damage, and I'm having to deal with contractors and insurance. Instead of selling us an over-sized heater as a direct replacement, he analyzed our hot water needs, and sold us a smaller unit. I watched the entire installation process, and Ron's pride in his work was evident. He installed higher-reliability connectors where appropriate, and did not re-use parts simply to cut corners. He definitely considered our needs, and didn't \"gold-plate\" the materials just to make an extra buck. His work prep and cleanup were also outstanding."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/spring-branch/countyline-plumbing-llc-reviews-482343.htm"},"position":10}]}

It was determined that we had a leak somewhere in the Freon system, which we unfortunately could not find because it was so tiny, but did fill up on Freon and had a complete system check.

We called Jim later in the day, he was out right away to stop the leak. He then came back a day or two later and made the repair by lunch time. He also cleaned up the site well. We were very pleased and highly recommend him to others.

A few months after installation, the coil was leaking freon, they came to replace it, but it’s now leaking again and the service manager told me they don’t make that part anymore and they will use something comparable and he's saying he can’t come out until Monday.

FAQs for gas leak repair projects in Jourdanton, TX
Yes, most states require a plumber to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Check our state licensing tool to review the local plumber guidelines.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification, which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Fixing a gas leak costs about $45 to $150 per hour for a plumber or gas line specialist. The job’s overall cost will vary depending on the location of the leak. A leaky junction or connection behind the stove or dryer will likely cost about $120 to $170. But for a leak that requires a gas fitter or plumber to excavate a pipe in the yard, the cost could rise to $1,500 to $5,000. Keep in mind that gas leaks are very serious issues, so don’t hesitate to contact a plumber or gas line specialist immediately.
Fixing a gas leak can take anywhere from one to 24 hours, depending on the location and magnitude of the problem. A gas line specialist or gas plumber should be able to give you an estimated time to completion once they evaluate the situation. If your city’s utility company works to fix a gas leak, it will likely have information available about the anticipated time for gas service to be restored.
The cost of repairing a gas leak depends on the type of leak, its severity, and how difficult it is for the repair technician to reach it. Some of the most common gas line repair costs, on average, include:
Cap a gas line: $75–$150
Gas system inspection: $150
Pressure test: $75–$500
Damaged or corroded pipe: $6–$7 per linear foot
Repair gas leak: $120–$5,000
A local natural gas plumber, gas fitter, or gas line specialist should fix gas leaks. Installing gas lines and connections improperly can lead to dangerous gas leaks and explosions. Only a certified plumber or gas line specialist should run gas lines. This is not a job to try out DIY skills, so hire a professional gas plumber or gas line specialist immediately to find the cause of the leak and fix it quickly.
