"Alan and his crew were prompt and extremely professional. Their attention to detail and work ethic was evident on every task, exterior painting, installation of a new exterior door, intalling gutter leaf guards, rebuild/painting of chimney facia. True craftsmen whose work was not only a very fair price, but provides great comfort knowing the quality of work is also an investment protecting my home from the elements,"

"Old School Builders LLC Driftwood TX was an A+ contractor. My wife & I had done quite a lot of re-modeling work with other contractors before we found out about Old School Builders - a Father / Son team of Jimmy & Jeremy Leake. They were head and shoulders above all the other general contractors we worked with. We didn't have formal plans for our room addition, just some ideas. They took our ideas and turned them into a beautiful room - everything we wanted. They readily accommodated our requested changes at a reasonable cost, and the project came in on time and on budget. They actually showed up when they said they were going to, did what they said they were going to do, and at the price quoted! Quality of work and attention to detail was excellent. What a breath of fresh air! Jimmy & Jeremy did most of the work themselves, and they actively managed the few sub-contractors they hired. They respected our privacy and property and actually cleaned up, not leaving our home looking like a construction zone. An incredibly good company to work with. Honest & trustworthy - the only contractor we gave complete run of our house to. I'm already planning to use Old School for our next project. Won't call anyone else."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

By careful planning and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity.

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

The best way to calculate framing costs is by basing your costs on the square footage of your home. On average, framing your home could cost anywhere between $7 and $16 per square foot.

To ensure you don’t go over budget, base your estimates on the higher end of the price range. If you know you’re going to use high-end materials or require a custom or complex build, you might even want to tack on an additional 5% of your budget.

For a professional carpenter, installing a window seat can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on some aspects of the project. Aside from building the seat itself, if they have to remove any cabinets, shelves, or baseboards, that will add time to the project.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.
