"Due to either the popularity of the package or the busy nature of the summer season, there was a 2-week delay in getting my repairs scheduled. Once the date was scheduled, the repair was delayed further another week or so due to rain. Once the repair team did arrive, they were very polite, friendly and professional, and finished quickly. They repaired and replaced just exactly what I had asked them to fix, and the fence looks good. If I ever need to have such a service again, I will give them a call. However, I would consider getting a quote before buying the Angie's Deal just to compare and see what my actual savings turned out to be.

"Excellent.  He came out the same day I called (which was a Saturday). I had some missing shingles on my roof as well as some corner areas damaged from a storm that needed repair. He was very clear about his rates and what he could fix.  Everything turned out just as he said.  I will definitely call on him again

"Their service was great.  I had met with four other roofers that were trying to get me to contact my insurance on the matter and get a new roof.  Texas Roof and Fence let me know there was no need for a new roof, just to fix the particular problem.  I felt they were more honest and professional about the problem.  They are also really convenient.  They will email you an invoice and let you pay online."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, particularly for small or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks don’t require digging or pouring. However, their use is regulated by local building codes, and they may not be permitted in areas prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes. Always consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.

Most building codes list a minimum width of 36 inches and a maximum height of 7¾ inches. However, for the most comfort and spaciousness, you’ll want to aim for a width of at least 48 inches and a height of 7 inches. Again, it’s always a good idea to base your numbers off steps that you already use comfortably.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.

As with patios, there are many types of deck choices to choose from to add personalization to your home. Some common deck options include:

  • Attached decks are anchored to the home and include simple ground-level options or multi-level structures with stairways and separate landings.

  • Detached island decks are not attached to the home; they’re a freestanding structure in the yard.

  • Wraparound decks connect the back of the house with at least one other side and often are built with railings for safety.

  • Multi-level decks connect your deck through varying levels of elevation, featuring landings that are attached to stairs.
