"Hire this company. I have a husband who can do everything around the home, yet it never gets done. We've needed attic insulation for a while. I did my due diligence with different companies on Angi's list and by simple google searches. Every other company who contacted me and came for an estimate tried to cheat me. Once David came for his estimate, I was a little beat down and almost canceled him. When he came in at such a better price than everyone else, I put the previous bids in front of him to help me understand. He spent time explaining to me why all the other expenses weren't justified. He was very patient and kind and considerate with me. The installers came on time. They worked exactly the amount of time estimated. My husband came home to a blown attic and really gave a critical once over before saying job well done. He's appreciative to David too. A Better Insulation knows what he is doing. Hire him."

"Holly from Koala was amazing from the start to the end. I originally I had them come over to give me a quote for spay insulation. Holly went over my options that were best for my house. After the work was completed my house has stayed cool which is amazing in this hot hot tecas summer. They also gave a Veterans discount!"

"Excellent experience! Had blown-in insulation added above an attached garage. Attic Fanatics has competitive pricing, quick response and lead time, and even allows payment via credit card. They even stayed after the job to help me put some boxes back up in the attic. Highly recommended!"

"They were a bit over the rest of the company’s that I had out. But the pease of mind that I had knowing that they were going to do it right was worth it. During the bid Mike answered all my questions before I was even able to ask them. Made a great impression on me. They also worked well with me removing my old insulation myself. PLUS , they hauled off the old stuff for me at a great price!! Thx guys!"

Insulation questions, answered by experts

It’s best not to install a radiant barrier directly under insulation because it requires an air gap on at least one side to work properly. Instead, you should install the radiant barrier over your existing insulation to create an air space to reflect the radiant heat.

It depends on your needs and preferences, though many homeowners think it is worth it. Not only is blown-in insulation easy to install, but it is highly efficient with thermal regulation. Most types are mold-resistant, flame-resistant, insect-resistant, and, most importantly, completely safe.

The average cost to install insulation is around $1,800, but you could pay anywhere between $500 and $4,500, depending on various factors. Some of the things that have a significant influence on your pricing include the following:

  • Size of the area

  • Type and R-value of the insulation

  • Whether your space is finished or unfinished

  • Accessibility of the area

  • Your geographical location

  • Amount of site preparation, especially for blown-in insulation

  • Whether or not you need old insulation removed

Cellulose insulation is usually made from recycled paper products, such as old newspapers, but cellulose might also contain recycled denim. While most homeowners traditionally buy cellulose insulation to use for installation, it is possible to make your own at home with old newspapers, cardboard, a paper shredder, and boric acid (important for fireproofing your cellulose insulation materials).

Single-pane windows might let in the cold, but if you’re not ready for a long-term solution or window replacement, there are quick fixes to keep your space warmer. Start by sealing gaps with weatherstripping or caulking around the frame to block drafts. For an extra barrier, apply window insulation film to the glass, trapping an air pocket between the film and the window. Thick curtains or thermal drapes can also help keep the chill at bay. And if you’re in a pinch and looking to get creative, bubble wrap can provide a surprisingly effective layer of insulation—just spritz the window with water and press it on, bubble side in.
