"First time home owners and hands down LTR is one of the best out there. Roy worked with our ideas and was very receptive. Always answered our questions and concerns. Made the necessary repairs and last minute details that were needed without hesitation. I highly recommend LTR. He gave us the beautiful ranch home we wanted."

"I've had the opportunity to work with SISU Development on projects from the design and drafting side, and I highly recommend him. He brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to each project, but what stands out most is the care and attention he gives his clients and their homes. From my experience working with him, he takes the time to understand the details, communicates well throughout the process, and genuinely wants to make sure the project is done right. As a designer, it makes a big difference working with a builder who values the plans, pays attention to the details, and keeps the client's best intrests in mind. I have a lot of trust in his work and would feel confident recommending him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and dependable builder who truly cares about the projects he takes on."

"He suggested other a couple ideas to prevent the water to flow to my house and made some corrections, laying the exhaust for my burners stove, he also laid out the entire flooring which included my house porch, and also did a few other things to finished up my project. I'm totally happy and I'm impressed. Mr. Rigney did an outstanding job to solve the problems that the first contractor created, very down to earth person, courteous, extremely high quality work, and I would recommend him highly. If I ever had any problems again on my house I would definitely him call him again."

"I had asked them to add an extra room, and they did such a great job. They added everything I asked for, and the price was just perfect. They will negotiate prices until we meet in the middle. Once the room was finished, they also painted the room which again they did an amazing job. Such nice people. Would definitely recommend and hire again."

Custom Home Builders FAQs, answered by experts

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.

No, a structural engineer is not the same as a builder. A structural engineer is an expert in all things related to the structural integrity of a building. The structural engineer is responsible for calculating the correct materials in terms of load-bearing capacity and overall structural safety. Structural engineers do not perform the actual building of the house or other structures. Rather, the builder executes the plans and designs specified by the structural engineer.

Green homes are often more expensive to build, averaging around $200 per square foot compared to the $150 per square foot you’d spend to build a standard home. However, green homes can save you money on your utility bills by consuming less energy or creating energy using solar panels or wind turbines on-site. They’re more expensive to build, but they often end up costing less in the long run.

Renovating or remodeling an existing structure is usually less expensive than the cost to build a new house. That’s because you can save on the costs of new building materials, laying a foundation, framing the entire building, and installing new materials and utilities throughout the house. However, if a home is in very poor condition or is incredibly old, you could spend more on upgrades and restoration compared to building from scratch.

Yes, you can finance cottage construction through several options. Construction loans provide funds in stages as work progresses, while home equity loans or lines of credit are available if you have existing property. Some lenders offer a combined construction and permanent mortgage. Always review loan terms and payment milestones before committing.
