On 10/23/14, the pipe used to connect the catalytic converter failed in the mountains in New Mexico. I had to drive for over an hour to get back to the small town I was staying in; the following morning, I had to drive for another hour to a shop in Santa Fe for repairs.
What should have been a simple repair (replacing the broken pipe) was complicated because incorrect bolts had been used in the exhaust flange; bolts had to be tapped out and replaced, along with removing the broken pipe and welding a new one in place. The repair took the better part of the day, costing me a day's work and making it necessary to juggle my hotel reservations and travel plans. It was also noted that the u-joints were about to fall out of my truck - it would have been great to lose a drive-train on some mountain road....or a highway.
When I returned to Texas, I contacted Bill Cabaj, Allstate owner, on 10/30/14. I explained the problem with the pipe/bolts and texted him pictures of the failed/incorrect parts and of the completed repair. I also mentioned that his shop had failed to service my transmission & differential, and that two other drive belts and the u-joints had to be replaced in Santa Fe - money that his shop could have collected had they thoroughly examined my truck as requested.
I asked for a refund of the pipe repair only - $189.95. Bill stated that they subcontract exhaust work and he would have to talk to his subcontractor. I waited until 11/5/14 and did not hear from Allstate; I called and left a message for Bill - my call was not returned.
On 11/10/14 I called again, left a message inquiring whether any action would be taken regarding a refund and asked for a call back. I have not been contacted.
I can only conclude that my <$200.00 repair expense due to a faulty part/repair is less important to Allstate than my >$2000.00 initial repair was. VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE.
11/20/14 Bill called and we discussed; he had contacted the subcontractor and expressed concern that the converter might have been affected by the high altitude (mountains) and said he would like to take a look at it to make sure it is ok. He also stated that he would mail a check to refund my out-of-pocket repair in New Mexico. I stated that I've had no problems with the truck since the New Mexico repair and we concluded the converter is probably ok and doesn't need to be checked at this time.
On 12/1/14 I called to check the status of the reimbursement; Bill said the check would be mailed that day.
On 12/3/14 I received a check for $190.00. I appreciate the reimbursement and the concern for proper operation of the converter.

They failed to finish in a week as they said, it took them 3.5 months to complete. Once they said it was complete, I found the fence was at different heights throughout the whole two areas fenced in. They cut pipes in a jagged and sharp manner that would cause harm to my children and animals. They failed to spray the welded areas to prevent them from rusting. They failed to attach the latches (drop down latches like the latches used in chain link) that I wanted, instead they gave me chains to keep my gates closed. I had to argue with them to convince them it would work. I had to provide the pictures to them because they said they did not make latches like that. They failed to put the tops on each of the posts in the yard leaving jagged edges exposed. The fence was extremely wobbly and I had to have them come out and tighten it. They left part of my old chain link fence posts installed and were too lazy to pull them out and put in new so the metal posts didn't match in height and looks and they had a different circumference in diameter. The gates I requested were not the correct gates. They were to order gates WITH a fence covering preinstalled by the factory already on them, instead they went to TSC and bought cattle gates and tied horse fence to it. THe fence was to keep my animals in the specific parts of the yard and it was up way too high off the ground and my dogs were able to go under. There were old fence posts from the chain link that was sheared off above the ground level and left exposed sharp edges. The twisted and braided wire at the top of the fence that was to keep the fence pulled tight and hog tied to the horse fence was never pulled tight and it drooped down a good 9 to 12 inches in the middle of each section. They told me it was for looks and not to be used as anything else. I had to call them back out several times as well as to stop by the business office to show them pictures of everything that was wrong. They denied it was their doing and that I was being too picky. They only came back to fix things AFTER I called the owner directly and she blamed everything on her husband being out of town, her son quitting and moving on in life, and she had to 'steal' away the best worker from another company in order to get things done at my house. (Don't care! This is a business, you are the owner and need to take responsibility of your business! They came back out and 'fixed' things. As I did my walk around and checked the fence line I noticed that they did lower the fence to the ground, they did put caps on the posts (3 different styles and all but 5 were used and one even had a hole cut out of it) they spray painted the welded spots with silver SPRAY PAINT and not the type to prevent rust! , but only on one side of each weld. I had to purchase the correct stuff and do it myself! The fence was level and not at different heights at this time. But the fence by the driveway moved back and forth by more than two feet in both directions. My dog would put her paws on the fence and lean it over and climb out. I had to call them out once again and they would not show for another two months to fix this and it was only after we contacts the BBB on them. Finally they showed to fix it, but it was the following June in 2013. The employees, foreman, and workers bad mouthed each other constantly pointing blame on whoever was not present on the shotty job! They never took me serious about what I wanted and my expectations until I finally informed them that my brother owns a fencing business out of state and my husband worked installed fences. I would have had them come in town to do the job, but I needed it done asap due to the necessity of locking up my animals and keeping them safe. Since they took so long to get the fence started and completed I had to keep all of the animals in my house and garage until it was finished. We were scheduled to leave on vacation the second week of June so I had to take 4 dogs with me 14 hours away just to return home to a still incomplete fence a month later. I will never use them again or recommend them to anyone else either. We still had problems with our fence until my husband came home to fix it."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/unknown/t-and-r-fence-reviews-8189490.htm"},"position":3},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Window World of Waco","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"TX","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Dale S."},"reviewBody":"What a great price at less than $300 a window installed. The crew from Window World of Waco was great. The presentation had no pressure and no games in pricing out the job. The day of install was great with the crew showing up on time and ready to work. They were very neat and very professional. The windows are doing a great job with the first thing we noticed the drop in outside noise. This is a 30 year old house and it is already feeling more comfortable with the cool winds this past weekend. We can not wait to see the first cold winter weekend and then summer to see the full benefit of our purchase.
We had quotes from other companies but Window World of Waco was hands down the most professional and low pressure with a great product. When we saw what they had to offer at a great price of less than $300 a window (Welded frame, double hung, low-e glass, screen, installation and lifetime transferable warranty) we were sold on the product. They have delivered on their bid and our new windows and new sliding back door look great.

After looking around I found A-1 Fence & Welding Co. When Ronnie and company owner Scott came to my house to give me an estimate on just a wood privacy fence, they introduced me to a maintenance free wood alternative called metal privacy fence. I had never heard of it and I was quickly hooked. Yes it's more expensive now, but it comes with a 45 year warranty. So ir you spend $1,500 (cheap) on a wood fence, plus say $500/year to keep it in good shape, and need to replace it every 15 years, this $5,000 fence is actually cheaper and you don't need to do ANY upkeep on it. So I had them do it. First they came over to my house one week before to to do some more measuring. Then when they came (on time) to start the fence, they had my old fence tore down and most of the new fence up in like 3 or 4 hours. They came and finished it the next day, again in like 3 or 4 hours. I was VERY impressed with their speed. Ronnie and Scott came over to talk to me again before they finished the fence to see what I thought. I tell you, it wasn't done when I left that day and I had never seen a better looking fence in my life. That was till I got home. When I left they were just starting the trim, but when I got home the fence was done and it added to the beauty of my home so much. It's sad in a way that it is so good. Sad because I'll be in the grave probably before I'll need a new fence, so I can't use them again. That is if I don't get another place. So needless to say, Ronnie, Scott and the entire A-1 Fence & Welding Co. staff have been super to work with and I encourage ANYONE to look them up for all you fencing and even your welding needs."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/harker-heights/a-1-fence-and-welding-reviews-4662090.htm"},"position":5},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Dillard Welding","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"TX","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Patricia T."},"reviewBody":"Fred Dillard had to be repeatedly called and even after giving him the $300.00 for the fabrication and welding, the work was not professionally done or levelled. Very excellent work, this welder knows his trade. Did more than I was expecting and was easy to work with. I give him 10 stars for his work and a job well done.
Left my SUV at the shop for over two weeks; requested that transmission & rear end be serviced and truck inspected for anything that needed to be done as I travel and don't want to be on the road with auto problems. Neither the transmission nor the differential were serviced. On 10/23/14,...

Welding is the process of using extreme heat—and, sometimes, pressure—to attach two pieces of metal. In contrast, metal fabrication is a more involved process that can include welding, sheet metal work, bending, and other forms of metal manipulation. Metal fabrication is a large-scale project that may or may not involve welding, while welding is more often a step in larger fabrication projects.
The average cost to hire a welder is about $300, with an average rate ranging from $65 to $125 per hour, depending on their experience and the project type and size. Aside from labor costs, some other charges you’ll need to pay include the cost of the welding material and the cost of the shielding gas that makes welding possible and safe. When you’re interviewing welders for your work, you can ask for an estimate based on your project specifics. In some simple cases, like welding gas lines or common welding projects, local welders may charge a flat hourly rate with add-ons if necessary.
There are a few things you can ask welders before you hire them to get an idea of their experience and ability levels:
Are you licensed and certified?
How long have you been in the welding business?
Do you commonly do the type of welding I need?
Do you offer any kind of warranty for your work?
Do you charge by the hour or by the project?
How long do you expect my welding project to take?
What steps do you take to minimize errors in your work?
You should not do your own welding unless you have the proper training and experience. Most home electrical systems can only handle MIG welding, which creates weaker bonds than TIG welding and won’t work on certain metals or metal thicknesses. Both welding forms usually require the use of shielding gas, which can be dangerous to store at home. Additionally, welding machines create temperatures of over 3,000 degrees, and the sparks can blind you if you don’t have the proper equipment. As such, it’s usually better to hire a professional welder for your welding projects.
Some states require welders to be licensed and certified, while others don’t. However, it’s always a good idea to hire a licensed welder, regardless of requirements in your area, especially if you need welding for structural components of your home or gas lines. Licensed welders have gone through training and testing to prove their skills, so they’re less likely to make a mistake that could be detrimental to your home. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to determine whether your potential hire has a welding license.
