"Excellent job! Professionally done and very efficient. Job involved removal of several very large shrubs and overgrown ivy. Very fair price for first-rate work. Excellent communication in scheduling the work, and showed up as promised. Highly recommended!"

"They did not finish job of moving bags on back porch but l understand they found snake skin and was afraid there might be a snake and one of the workers could get bitten. I understand. They traveled from Rogersville TN to Bristol TN the day after l called them. I needed someone fast and Shawn made time to come and help me the very next day. The guys worked hard and fast and l was satisfied with their service."

"Very professional and trustworthy. Went out of their way to make sure the job was perfect. Addy was easy to communicate with, very friendly, and always showed up at the times she said she would. Did a fantastic job on painting, paint removal and wall repair. Also cleaned up after themselves. I Will definitely be using this team to do other jobs at my home."

"This team are A+ workers, ?????! We had a large deck that we have been wanting to update, but every contractor we called either didn't show, or never gave us an estimate. When the owner came out he took measurements, and worked the estimate step by step right on the spot. He walked me and my husband through the process, and explained how it would work. They quoted us 5-7 working days to complete the project, and had it broken down, rebuilt, and water sealed in 4 days! They even offered to haul off some old piled wood we had left from the storms last year, and did it for free!!!! Highly recommend this company!"

"Prestige showed up when scheduled, ensured they knew my expectations before they began the work, cleaned up the site, and when done they asked if their service met my expectations. The job was completed consistent with the original quote. I have no complaints and would recommend their tree services based upon the job they completed for me."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Footings for ground-level decks need to be at least 12 inches deep, and some areas require them to be even deeper. A standard range for deck footings is anywhere from 12 to 48 inches. The minimum footing depth is determined by an area’s frost line and soil conditions. If you’re unsure how deep to install deck footings, check local building codes to find the minimum footing depth in your area.

Yes, it is generally safe to have a fire pit on a deck, but you must adhere to building codes and take several safety precautions. For both built-in and freestanding models, you must use a heat-resistant barrier, such as a fire pit pad or heat shield, between the pit and the deck. Additionally, consider the weight of the fire pit and ensure your deck can structurally support it, reinforcing it if necessary. The fire pit must also be positioned a safe distance from your house, particularly from materials like vinyl siding, to prevent heat damage.

The proper and most comfortable height for a deck stair riser, also called a step, is between four and seven inches. A height of seven inches is often considered ideal for a strain-free step that minimizes the risk of trips and falls. While it is possible to have risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. For optimal safety and comfort, pair a seven-inch riser with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. Always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements that differ from these general recommendations.

Building codes for deck railings can vary by location, so it's important to consult your local regulations before construction. Generally, a guardrail is required for any deck that is more than 30 inches above the ground.

For residential properties, the standard minimum height for a deck railing is 36 inches. However, some states and municipalities have stricter requirements; for example, California and Washington mandate railings that are at least 42 inches high. Therefore, a 42-inch railing is not considered too high and may be required in your area or chosen voluntarily for additional safety.

In addition to height requirements, codes also specify other safety features, such as the maximum spacing between balusters to ensure they are close enough to prevent a child from squeezing through.

Yes, it’s definitely possible to build a pergola on an existing deck. All you need to do is attach the pergola support beams to the deck’s joists and build up from there. Beware that mistakes can damage your deck, so if you’re at all unsure of the process, play it safe and hire a pro for your custom build.
