"I hate to bring down a good set of reviews, but our experience with Home Expo was not as positive as those described by others. I had several repair issues and contacted then via Home Advisor. My wife met with Isaac and was impressed with his eye for detail. He discussed quality of workmanship and noted other areas needing attention. He estimated 2 ½ days of work. Isaac soon sent a bid using the camera feature of his iphone, which was a bit difficult to review and somewhat vague. I asked for more detail and provided a list of other repairs I wanted complete. The expanded list soon arrived with more detail, but several items were still covered under general terms, ie: repaint baseboards and trim as needed. (More on that later.) I was eager to get things rolling and gave the go-ahead. The first two days only had two workers on the job and began to lag. My wife called Isaac and he responded quickly, adding personnel and spending more time on the job. However, the repairs began to take on a rushed feel. After three full days of work on the list of concerns, things were not fully completed, so a second walk through with Isaac was scheduled. I was back in town for this one and walked the job site with him. (Isaac was late and his painters said he was getting the mortar for our steps.) Isaac arrived and we made the walkthrough, where I noted several issues with touch up and noted the fact that none of the baseboards or trim had been touched. When we finished, he spoke to his team and disappeared again. I asked and was told that he didn’t have mortar, which surprised me given the explanation for his original tardiness. He returned around lunch time and knocked out the mortar, before departing again. He did not return for a final walk through before his people packed up and left. Some specifics about the job: Mirror not removed prior to repainting powder room -- old paint still visible. Furniture not returned after repainting rooms. (Surprising since I added money to his bid in order to cover moving items) Excess mortar left on front steps after replacing mortar on top step. Also used gray mortar, vice the color used for the rest of steps. (Will likely have someone else re-do the job). No touch up of any baseboards (even bare wood) of door frames. Shutter on exterior of house was never reattached, in spite of pointing it out at least twice. Re-grouted tile in 3 bathrooms, but did not hang around to clean the excess grout from the tiles or come back to clean and seal. Instead, he told my wife to wait 2 days then mop with a 50/50 water-vinegar solution, which would both clean the tiles and seal the grout. That plan did not work and I am currently cleaning individual tiles with vinegar and a scrub brush. Some general thoughts: I believe Isaac is enthusiastic, conscientious, and knows what to do, but had more projects going than he could properly manage. For the most part, the completed work was well done, but follow up was la"

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.

Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:

  • Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?

  • What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?

  • Do you have references I can speak with?

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Costs depend on skylight size, roof type, and additional features like blinds or tinting.

Repairing or replacing a skylight generally takes between a few hours to a full day. Simple repairs might take 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the problem. The total time can vary based on factors like weather conditions, the accessibility of the skylight, and the extent of the work required, such as replacing the entire unit versus performing minor repairs.

This is based on personal preference, budget, and the vibe you are going for with your holiday lighting. If you are looking for the cheapest option, incandescent lights are a budget-friendly choice. You can also opt for sheets of lights that cover areas such as trees and bushes for easier installation.
