"Summit Roofing did an amazing job on my roof in Brighton! The team was professional, on time, and kept me updated through every step of the process. They worked quickly but made sure everything was done right. My roof looks great, and the cleanup afterward was spotless. I’d definitely recommend Summit Roofing to anyone needing reliable and high-quality roofing work!"

"The estimate for this roof leak repair was ridiculously high - $900! Although it was apparent that the quy was very knowledgablIe, we decided to get someone else to do the job. The fellow was extremely nice and professional but his estimate was much too high.

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Walking on any roofing material is dangerous, so you should avoid it if you can, but if the need arises, you should know that you can walk on a concrete tile roof without damaging it. Try to step on the bottom portions of the tile that are supported by the lower layer, and distribute your weight evenly across both feet and hands, if possible.

EPDM roofing is a single-ply roofing material made of rubber, and a professional will install it in a single sheet and seal the seams. Built-up roofing (BUR) consists of multiple layers made from asphalt, adhesives, and roofing felt. A professional will construct the layers of BUR on-site. EPDM is easier to repair and has better resistance to extreme temperatures, while BUR is more fire-resistant and affordable.

Metal roofs do not inherently leak more than shingle roofs; when properly installed, they are generally less likely to leak. Asphalt shingle roofs are more susceptible to leaks due to factors like wind uplift, damage from extreme weather, moss growth, and ice dams. Over time, asphalt shingles also lose their protective grit, which reduces their waterproofing capabilities. In contrast, metal is a more resilient material that stands up better to heavy precipitation and high winds. However, metal roofs can develop leaks if they are poorly installed, have improperly sealed fasteners, or experience issues from thermal expansion. For this reason, professional installation and regular maintenance are crucial to ensure a metal roof's longevity and superior protection against leaks.

Asphalt shingles blister when air gets trapped between building materials, either within the layers of the shingle itself or in adhesives on the undersides of the shingles. As the roof heats up in direct sunlight, the trapped gas expands and creates a bubble in the roof. Eventually, the bubble can pop, leaving an exposed area of decking and underlayment.

It’s always a good idea to have a lawyer review any legally binding contract before signing, including roofing contracts. Most contracts have straightforward language that’s easy to understand, but getting advice from an attorney before signing could save you from being locked into a contract you don’t want to move forward with. Having a lawyer review your contract can also help protect you if your roofing professional defaults on their side of the agreement.
