"Cory and Colton arrived on the time schedule, did a survey on the apartment and quickly started moving the furniture. They were very professional and did the best they could to finish as early as possible."

"It was easy to schedule with True friends and they accommodated the date we wanted. The movers came on time, we’re very careful, professional and efficient. They completed the move in less time than I anticipated even while accommodating the special circumstances of our move. If you are lucky enough to get Jeremiah O’Donnie and Ryan you will be in good hands and will have a good moving experience."

"Our move-in/move-out didn't line up so we had to move our entire house into storage. 6th Man provides their own truck and moved everything quickly and carefully with 3 movers and one truck. I just hired them again to move everything out of storage and into the new house. I definitely recommend them!"

Customers say: True professional

"Gunner reached out to me within a minute of my posting a need through Angi. I needed help moving my young adult daughter from Antioch to LaVergne... and I needed it to happen in two weeks! He assured me that it could be done; he had a crew and a truck. He didn't even charge for 2nd floor service! His quote was solid and I accepted right away. His guys showed up at the right time and did a good job transferring one apartment to another. Tracy reached out a couple of times before the move to make sure everything was set. I felt totally cared for and I was confident in the service they provided. Would certainly recommend Next Step Moving for any local move!"

Moving questions, answered by experts

There are generally three ways to ship furniture to another state: hiring professional movers, using consolidated freight, or through parcel shipping. Professional movers will generally pack your boxes in a truck and transport them to a storage facility or directly to your home.

A consolidated freight service will pack, load, and ship your items, but this is best to use for one or two pieces since your items will take longer to be delivered and will share truck space with other items. Parcel shipping such as UPS and FedEx is best for smaller items since there are size limits, and you’ll have to drop the boxes off at a local branch.

Movers are very skilled in everything having to do with the moving process. From knowing which supplies and materials to use for certain items, to packing, to knowing how to efficiently load a truck, they have experience doing it all. And professional movers often do it all faster and more efficiently than a typical homeowner could.

When loading a moving truck, the general rule is to load the heaviest and largest items first to create a stable base at the front of the truck, which helps balance the weight. You can start with large furniture like sofas, beds, mattresses, and tables to form a solid foundation, or begin by placing your heaviest boxes against the truck's walls to create a base layer. After the base is set, continue loading other large items like appliances and square furniture. Lighter and smaller objects, including most of your boxes, should be loaded last. They can be packed into gaps, around, and on top of the heavier items to maximize space. Following this order makes unloading easier and helps prevent damage to your belongings.

It’s typically not advisable to move heavy furniture by yourself. However, if you are confident that you can do it safely, there are several different tools you can use, including a hand truck, a four-wheel dolly, or an appliance dolly. If you’re moving furniture upstairs or downstairs, a hand truck is the most suitable choice. Regardless of what you choose to use, always ensure that the furniture is well-balanced and secure by using lifting straps or tie-down straps to keep it in place.

The best way to pack mirrors is to use specially padded cartons or boxes made for mirrors. Be sure to thoroughly wrap the fragile mirror in padded paper or bubble wrap before sliding it into its box. That way, there’s a protective barrier in between the mirror and the box. Then, fill in any gaps with crumpled paper or additional packing materials.
