"I had drywall work done by these folks. This is a remodel. The communication was bad as I had asked when they would come and they said Friday. I asked them to remove the ceiling popcorn and put knock down on it. They said they would come Wednesday to remove the popcorn. I had elctric boxes to replace and switches to move so figured I would do those Wednesday and Thursday. They came Wednesday and told me they were putting up the drywall as well as removing the popcorn. I rushed to move the switches and the owner started changing the outlets. The area had paneling on the walls before so the outlet plates needed to be moved out to be flush with the drywall. He got some of them done but not all. They did a good job putting up the drywall except not the neatest job around windows. The finishers did their job and when it was completed on Saturday they said to check out the job so they could get paid. Now checking out everything about the drywall is a bit hard because it all looks good until the painting is done. It looked good but when I went to paint it, I ended up doing a lot of work including sanding. I can do drywall so I know when a job could have been done better especially with the finishing. These are supposed to be professionals. I liked the man that was in charge and do feel he probably would have come back to fix things but I didn't have time to wait and so did the work myself. I do believe the owner should have come to inspect the work, not the home owner."

Handyman Services questions, answered by experts

Many contractors prefer checks because they’re easy to track and have no associated fees. However, many also accept credit cards (though they might add a fee to cover their processing costs).

While a handyperson will do the odd small job for your home, a maintenance person is responsible for conducting regular inspections and repairs. Maintenance people may come in to do small fixes and diagnose any issues you might be facing, but may not have all the same technical abilities as a handyperson.

Cleaning a gutter, replacing fixtures such as a cabinet or light, and painting are common reasons to call a handyperson. You can also call on a handyperson for simple tasks, like assembling new furniture, and complex ones, such as installing a dishwasher. Overall, handypeople are ideal in all areas of home repair that do not require a specific certification, such as with plumbing, electrical, or structural issues.

Hiring a handyman costs around $400 per project, but the total could range from $65 to $1,500 or more, depending on the type of project and how long it takes. Most handypeople charge on a per-hour basis, usually around $90 per hour. Less experienced handypeople could charge as low as $40 per hour, while experts or highly experienced handypeople may charge up to $140 per hour. Here are some additional factors that affect your pricing:

  • Amount of time the job takes

  • Difficulty level of the work

  • Material costs

  • Accessibility of the work area

Yes, you can use a dremel tool to cut plexiglass. Follow the instructions under “How to Cut Plexiglass with a Saw,” and use a dremel tool with a 561 bit instead of a saw.
