The job was very time-sensitive. His crew was here on time and did an exceptional job in all areas. Jody has done work for us before--primarily handyman jobs--and we will definitely call on him again when the need arises. We highly recommend A Head Above Home Repair!"

Founded in 1991 as Crawford-Smith Construction, Inc., the original focus of the company was residential insurance repairs and restoration in the Memphis market. Dale Sharp joined the firm in 1994 as manager of the newly opened Nashville office. In 1997, the company made a concerted effort to leave the residential market and perform only commercial projects. Sharp was made a partner in 1998 and the firm name changed to Crawford, Smith and Sharp, LLC to reflect his addition to the ownership. Over the next decade the business grew in size, capability and areas of coverage. In 2009, Sharp bought the business entirely and made Dave Robbins a partner forming Sharp & Robbins Construction, LLC. Robbins had been a project manager with the firm for (5) years in advance of this transition, and is a life-long veteran in the restoration industry. Chris Popwell was added to the ownership in 2015 and the name was again amended to its current version to reflect the addition. Popwell, a structural engineering graduate has been a part of the team since 2008. We have been in business for over 25 years, and have brought service to many happy customers. We have built complete neighborhoods, homes, home additions, garages, and barns. We also specialize in remodeling and repairing. I have a contractors license and we do a majority of all work ourselves but do occasionally subcontract some work out. We enjoy this work and are only satisfied when the customer is satisfied.

Water and Smoke Damage Repair questions, answered by experts

You may need to replace drywall because of smoke damage. If the drywall is covered in soot, you may be able to clean it, but it will require a lot of time and effort. You could spend hours cleaning the drywall only to find there is more damage and it needs to be replaced anyway. It’s usually easier and safer to remove the smoke-damaged drywall and replace it.

Luckily, you can typically eliminate your microwave’s burnt smell within a few hours for most situations. Be sure to let it air out for two to three hours after cleaning to let the odor evacuate your home—if you close your home up too early, the odor will be trapped. For stronger, more stubborn burnt smells, it might take a full day or more to really notice a difference.

Most insurance policies cover fire damage. Be sure to check the details of your policy to see how coverage is calculated—it can be either the full replacement cost of damaged materials and items or the actual cash value, which includes depreciation. When making a fire damage claim, be sure to get all the necessary documentation together to help expedite the process.

Yes, most homeowner’s insurance companies cover smoke damage if it stems from a covered issue, like a house fire or a wildfire. If you’re unsure, you can read through your policy or call your provider immediately after the event to see if the damage is covered. Make sure to document all of the damage, including damage to furniture and other items, when you file an insurance claim so you can be properly compensated.

Creosote buildup, cracked liners, structural degeneration, or obstructions like nests necessitate attention to prevent combustion or air quality issues.
