"I hired Walter to install a 220v outlet in my garage. From the start Walter asked what I wanted, he also asked for pictures of my electrical panel and where I wanted the new outlet. Within a few hrs he got back to me with a detailed quote. He was on-time, his work was excellent. I will deffinately use Walter again."

"Proper Electric (Stephen) came out and got straight to work diagnosing my in-law’s electrical issues and fixed it within a timely manner. He has been called out for different jobs including upgrades, but sometimes critters chew up wires and Proper will be their first call for any electrical issues!"

"Terrific job. Mock Electric installed a power line on an independent circuit for a new electric fireplace located about 100 feet away from our fuse box. They were on time and did the work in a thorough and efficient manner and on budget. Thank you for this recommendation!"

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"Pryor Electric did extensive re-wiring work in our home from the electrical panel to the fixtures and receptacles. Over the course of the week, the team was very professional - always on time, organized and on schedule. Each day, everything was cleaned up and back in its place and someone reviewed the day's progress and the next steps. Every piece of work, large to small, is quality. From Mr. Pryor's visit for the estimate through the last double-check, they were all patient with my questions and any 'challenges' that the house may have presented. I have great peace of my mind after the work they've done. Highly, highly recommend this team!"

"John called me back within 15 minutes.  He was very helpful and said he could do it but thought it might be better for me to contact someone a little closer.  I think his schedule was pretty full although he didn't say that.  He recommended 2 companies in my area and I ended up hiring one of them to do the work.  I was very pleased with them and they were prompt just like John at Lightning Rod Systems.  I appreciate that he was thinking about what was best for me."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

240V is the standard for more demanding appliances in the United States, whereas 220V is more common elsewhere. The voltage isn’t very different in any practical sense. The United States is a newer country compared to many other regions in the world with a faster adoption of new electrical needs. Appliances in the United States are often bigger than other parts of the world.

Yes, you can use a dimmer switch with an LED fixture, but it must be a dimmer that is compatible with LEDs. Check the manufacturer’s information to ensure the dimmer works with LEDs, as not all dimmers are compatible with them. Many smart light switches accept LEDs, but be sure to read the details on the packaging.

Electrical fires are unique from other fire types because they have the potential to deliver electric shocks in addition to being on fire. Avoid serious injury from possible electrical emergency situations by avoiding the use of water, foam-based fire extinguishers, wet-chemical fire extinguishers,  flour, or baking powder to put out an electrical fire.

If you’re moving wires, installing new wires, or installing new fixtures in the space you’re insulating, then you will need to hire a licensed electrician to do that portion of the job for you. However, if you just intend on replacing old insulation or adding new insulation over existing insulation, then you don’t need to hire one. Your insulation installer will work around wiring, fixtures, outlets, and switches, even if they’re installing fiberglass batts in the voids where wires run. However, you will need an electrician if you suspect a problem with your wiring during the insulation work.

A multimeter does not measure frequency, charge, inductance, and other electrical quantities. Instead, it measures voltage (AC and DC), current, and resistance.
