Small jobs welcome

"Excellent job by Nicolas and his helper with installing new Bermuda sod. He was very prompt, had very competitive pricing, and was professional, courteous, and responsive. My front yard now looks great after looking rather embarrassing beforehand. I would absolutely hire him again for future landscaping work."

Customers say: Quick response

"Brad Skinner and his team provide excellent services in the delivery and installation of 18 pallets of sod in my yard. He kept me informed on the timing of the delivery, called ahead to verify that i flagged the sprinkler heads, fully prepped the subsurface. Installation was done in one day. Power-washed our drive afterwards. He also offered the best pricing. Stand-up guy. Does what he says he will do plus more."

"M and P Landscaping installed 5 irrigation zones, sodded one side of my property, and removed several tree stumps. They were prompt, hard-working, and did a great job! I will definitely hire them again if I need another project done."

"Thorough communication and quality work through the entire process. Installed multiple zones of additional irrigation and (a lot) of sod in our barren back yard. Unmatched professionalism from start to finish. Highly recommend."

"Russ was a pleasure to work with. He came in and completed exactly what we wanted. He did not leave until he made sure we were satisfied with the job. Glad we chose them to clear our property. He was also thoughtful to our yard trying his best to leave it intact as much as possible due to machinery used. All turned out great. Would recommend."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Buying plants from a nursery is one thing, but ensuring that they are properly planted is another. While you might not need to hire a landscaper for every plant that you buy from a nursery, it’s a great idea to have their expertise and experience to plant larger items, like burlapped trees or specialty plants like rose bushes. Even better, before making a trip to a nursery to buy new plants, consult a local landscaper to test your soil for pH levels, soil texture, and phosphorus and potassium levels to help determine the best plants for your area.

The best time to plant a privet hedge is autumn, ideally October or early November. Fall is the best time to plant privet hedges because young plants need plenty of water to jump-start their growth, and it typically rains more during this season. However, you can also successfully plant privets in the spring.

The soil around your foundation should slope down and away from your home, not toward it. If the grading drops the farther you are from your home, you can enhance the slope by removing more soil. Mark off a few feet from your house and dig up some of this soil. Regrading around your fountain should encourage water to flow away from your home and not collect or “pond.”

The best type of rock for landscaping depends on your specific project and needs, as different rocks are suited for different applications. For covering large areas or creating an affordable driveway, consider gravel, but note that it can wash away in flowing water. For water features, river rocks are a good option. Flagstone and cobblestone are ideal for aesthetically pleasing patios and walkways. If you are building a stone wall, fieldstone or small boulders are up to the task. Large boulders and landscape rocks work well as statement pieces, to fill empty space, or to indicate boundaries, but be mindful that they can overwhelm smaller gardens. The best approach is to first define your landscaping project and then select the rock type that best fits that purpose.

A scattering of leaves won’t pose a problem through the winter, but a thicker layer of leaves may not decompose before the first frost and can instead weigh down your grass and harbor mold or fungi. A thick layer of leaves also cuts off light and air that grass needs to grow. That’s why we suggest removing thick leaf layers within several days if possible. If your lawn goes dormant over the winter and snow has already caught up with you, then remove the leaves in early spring before your grass-growing season starts so your lawn can thrive.
