"We had issues with one corner of our kitchen having over a 1à ¢à  à  drop. We also had water/mold collecting in the crawl space. We did our research and got several estimates and decided on Mountain Valley. Danny Snee was our Certified Field Inspector and he was very professional and knowledgable about our situation. We decided that a full encapsulation would solve our foundation problem. Danny was always available to take our calls and discuss scheduling and any concerns that we had. Tyler (Will) Williams (Foreman), KJ (Co-Foreman) and Brandon (Installer) did our encapsulation and were very professional and walked us through step by step on what they were doing. Their technical experience and professional was unprecedented. I would recommend this company and team to do any of my foundation work."

"I have a construction background but was unfamiliar with encapsulation as I just moved to Georgia. After extensive review of the encapsulation systems that were available in the area, and the price difference, I concluded the Crawl Space Doctor was a good fit. The main reason I chose the Crawl Space Doctor was because of their system. The other system was double the cost of the Crawl Space Doctor, so I carefully reviewed the difference and felt I would be getting equal benefits. I selected a 90 mil film for my project. Greg was very prompt and articulate in explaining his system and how his team would complete the work. Greg and his team did excellent work. They took out all of the debris under the house, informed me of a few problems they detected and repaired, then went to work putting the encapsulation system in place. They were very efficient. The crawlspace is doing exactly what I expected. The benefits of the Crawl Space Doctor's system are these: I am breathing better air quality. I am noticing a difference in the temperature of the house with reduced cooling costs, and expect the same on my heating costs. My insulation and floor joists are no longer moist and susceptible to mold. My heating and cooling ductwork will last longer with the humidity gone from the area. The dehumidifiers Greg put in do not run continuously, they will cycle off once the humidity desired point is reached. My hardwood flooring will not buckle in the future due to excessive humidity. My vents are now permanently sealed so rodents can't come into the house in the winter. I have peace of mind knowing my home is more protected with an encapsulation. It is a no brainer product in that it is a good investment all around. I would highly recommend Greg and his team at the Crawl Space Doctor. He has been doing encapsulations for years and is an expert in the field. His team does the work, but he personally oversees the project. You are in good hands with Greg McBride of the Crawl Space Doctor!! You will not regret spending less for top quality!"

"We were replacing old Gutters that overflowed every time it rained. I got three bids for the job. Gutter Glove wasn’t the cheapest but based on our conversation, I felt it would be the best solution. The covers are by far the best I’ve seen. That will save me a lot of climbing on the roof. Troy arrived right on time, did exactly what he said he would, cleaned up after himself...no issues at all. We had a day of heavy rain later in the week and the gutters worked perfectly. They also look great. I would definitely hire Troy again."

"It was okay. They did not charge anything additional. The guy came in because he was checking the foundation and once he left, I realized I had dirt throughout my house, everywhere he went. He had dirty boots that I didn't realize were dirty until he left. He went upstairs and everywhere he went, he tracked dirt throughout my house, so I wasn't very happy with that. They call me at least once a month because they gave me an estimate, so they call me about it. That is irritating. I would tell people to give them a chance and to make sure they take off their boots first. When she called the first time, I told her that we were thinking about it, so she asked if she could call back in about 3 weeks, and I said yes. When she called I said we had not yet made a decision and now they call once a month, and I haven't spoken with them, but she leaves a message. That is not a big deal, because I should have just told them not to call. My big problem is that he checked the foundation under the house and then came with mud into the house. We got another estimate that was like $6000 less. They were aggressive with responsiveness."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Covering the dirt floor in your crawl space with a vapor barrier helps insulate the space and improve the air quality in your home. It protects your crawl space from pest infestations, excess moisture, and mold growth. It also makes the crawl space less dusty, which means there’s a lower chance of dust mites breeding and causing allergic reactions in your home.

If a crawl space isn’t vented, there can be moisture buildup, which can lead to mold damage, easily destroying the foundation of your home. A closed-off crawl space can trap heat, which can be useful in the winter, but can also trap dangerous gases and prevent clean air from entering the home through the floorboards.

Due to the nature of basements, some level of waterproofing is necessary to prevent water from seeping in and causing damage. Some definitive signs that your basement needs waterproofing measures or needs existing waterproofing measures need to be updated include:

  • Water in your basement, including damp walls or puddles on the floor

  • Mold spots in your basement

  • Musty smells or odors

  • Warped doors or walls

  • Cracks in walls

  • Insect issues, such as cockroaches and termites

Ductwork sweats due to a temperature difference between the air inside the ducts and the surrounding air, similar to how a cold drink develops condensation in the heat. This sweating is a sign that your HVAC system is not operating at peak efficiency. The best way to keep ductwork from sweating is to wrap it in proper insulation, which also improves your system's energy efficiency. Another option is to close off your crawl space and install a dehumidifier to dry the air and lower its dew point.

As the first layer of water protection for your roof deck and the building materials below, underlayment is designed to prevent water damage, so it’s okay if it gets wet. However, you shouldn’t rely solely on underlayment for protection. If rain interrupts your roof project and you have all of the underlayment down, you’ll likely be fine, but you should install shingles over that layer as soon as possible, as long-term exposure can lead to water damage.
