"Scott and his team were awesome. I was having trouble getting estimates to replace a fence after the hurricane. Patriot Outdoor was one of the few who actually came out to give an estimate. The price was fair and the work was done within 5 days of paying my deposit! Everything went faster than expected and was very smooth and professional. High quality work!"

Small jobs welcome

"Nick did 2 jobs for us. First: insulation, drywall and painting of our garage. There is a high, multi angled ceiling that we wanted kept that way (the first bidders wouldnâ t do itâ they would only do a drop ceiling),2 large storage closets we wanted to keep (first bidders said they would be too hard to work in and around), and some demo and removal of old cabinets and open beam overhead storage, all of which they said we would need to remove and dispose of. And painting wasnâ t included. Nick looked around, and said he could do everything exactly as we wanted, and proceeded to do so. He did all the demo and removal, did a great job with that challenging vaulted, asymmetrical ceiling, kept the closets and just insulated and drywalled them from inside, taped, mudded, and painted. We felt that we got excellent value for the price. We added a couple of extra requests as the job progressed, and he accommodated them at reasonable costs. Second: indoor painting. The whole house has 6â baseboards. The last painters used latex over the existing oil based paint, and everything was pealing. There were also big spaces between the perimeter of the hardwood floors and the baseboards. Nick sanded, sealed and repainted to match the test of the white trim, and stained snd installed quarter rounds to cover the spaces. Everything looks great. On a personal note, Nick was conscientious not only about doing the work right, but also about communication and punctuality. So, obviously, we highly recommend him."

"Great work! We were very happy with the Anthony John crew, especially Frank the foreman. They knew their stuff and got the whole roof done in a day. I was very impressed with their expertise and agility on this 10/12 pitch roof. They worked from ropes and didn't need toeboards and that was a good selling point for me. In short, they did exactly what they said they would do in the time they said they could do it. I do not hesitate to recommend this company."

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

Fabric awnings provide shade, reduce energy costs, and enhance outdoor aesthetics.

To ensure the installation process goes smoothly, it's wise to ask a potential pro several questions. Key topics to cover include:

  • Licensing and Insurance: Do you have a professional license and insurance to perform this work? This is crucial as installing an awning into a home's exterior can be a complex job.

  • Cost Estimate: What was the price of similar jobs you've completed? Awning installation costs can vary based on size, design, and location, so this helps establish a general price range.

  • Project Timeline: How long will this project take to complete? Getting an estimated timeline provides peace of mind, even though unforeseen hurdles can occur.

  • Building Permits: Will I need a building permit for this project, and who is responsible for obtaining it? An experienced local contractor will be knowledgeable about local rules and regulations.

  • References and Portfolio: Do you have references from previous clients or photos of completed projects? Speaking with past clients and seeing previous work can give you insight into their experience and the quality of their work.

Awnings can be a serious investment for homeowners, particularly if it features a motorized and retractable design. Protect the exterior of your home by choosing a reliable and reputable contractor. Do some research ahead of time to get an idea of the potential contractor’s strengths and weaknesses. Don’t hesitate to give them a call to discuss specifics.

Durable materials suited for climate include aluminum for coastal areas or composite wood in varying environments for durability and minimal upkeep.

There are many materials to choose from, including picket fencing, wood slats, galvanized metal skirting, dog-ear fence panels, scallop wood fence panels, bamboo screens, and other decorative screens. You can search for materials at local big box stores like Home Depot or scour online home improvement sites. Good search terms to use are fencing, skirting, and privacy panels.
