"Ron was spectacular. He child-proofed our house, doing a ton of high quality, thoughtful work towards making our house safe for our young child. We have worked with him twice now and cannot recommend him enough. He is our only phone call for household projects and should be your first and only call too."

"Do not hesitate to hire Do It Right Handy Services!! After speaking with a couple of other repair people I went with them because their diagnostic fee was what I could afford. I got an appointment right away for George to come to my house to diagnose what was wrong with my dishwasher He was quick and courteous. My kids absolutely loved him and drew him a picture to take home with him LOL. He ordered the part and less than a week later it came in. He called me and came by right away to install it and I now have a working dishwasher again. A+ service all around. The next time something in my house breaks, this is the first and only phone call I'm going to make."

Childproofing questions, answered by experts

The best time to hire a childproofing professional is at least three months before your due date. Although it might seem early, proper childproofing takes time, especially if you need extensive services like a pool fence. Getting your house ready now before your child is on the go only helps to protect them at all stages of life.

In many cases, you can DIY home childproofing with success. You can purchase childproofing tools like cabinet locks, outlet covers, and table-edge guards and install them easily.

However, it's best to have a professional childproofing service work on larger projects like pool safety or furniture anchoring. These safety measures can take a lot of time and effort to DIY, plus, you want to ensure the tasks are done correctly to keep your child safe.

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are a safe and effective way to protect children from electrical hazards. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the outlet slots when not in use, preventing a child from inserting foreign objects. While they are the safest option available, it's important to note that few things can be considered truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug, so constant supervision around any electrical device is recommended. Tamper-resistant outlets are a much safer solution than childproofing covers, which can be removed by children and may pose a choking hazard.

Many parents, especially first-time parents, agree that professional childproofing is worth it. These professional childproofing services are trained to recognize dangerous home situations that many people would overlook until it's too late. Furthermore, professional childproofing experts have access to top-of-the-line equipment you can't purchase at most stores, providing longevity and peace of mind.

The average cost of childproofing services is $410. This cost can range from $190 to $630 or more, depending on the size of your home and what services you need.

The location of the childproofing additions also plays a vital role in the overall cost. For example, a bathroom is relatively small and costs about $150 to fully childproof. However, if you have a swimming pool, you could spend as much as $1,500 to $10,000 to make it entirely safe for small children, including adding a pool fence.
