"Rob is excellent! Personable and very reasonably priced. We work during the week so he came on Saturday to install some insulation in the attic. And then came during the week while we were at work and blew in the insulation around our house. He did a great job! Our home is SO much warmer now."

"Hired Pro Tech to spray foam insulate my 12x20 gym in my shed after I installed a mini split it was constantly running due to losing the cold air. Saving money now by running it much less in turn keeping my electric bill down. Stuck to his quoted price which was more than fair and completed the job in less than a day. Will be hiring them again for any future needs."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Insulation can be easy to install, depending on the condition of your walls, but there are many safety considerations and potential challenges involved. For example, most types of insulation are made from materials that can cause irritation if inhaled or if they come into contact with your skin. Additionally, installing insulation incorrectly can actually make moisture issues in your home worse.

Yes, you can use too much bubble wrap. If you overdo it with the wrapping, it can strain the top of your box and break open the taped seal, risking the chance that the contents of the box could fall out or break. Use enough wrapping to fully cover your item without compromising the security of your box.

Insulating a stone house is an expensive and involved process because it requires building a double-walled house. The walls don’t need to be the same thickness, but they both need to be thick enough to handle any structural demands and meet fire and safety standards. The insulation (usually foam or fiberglass) is then installed between the two stone walls.

The best way to reduce heat upstairs is to release it by opening a window. Hot air rises, and if you can create some airflow by opening a window upstairs and also one on a lower level, the hot air should be pushed out of the home. Remember that fans pointing out the window do a much better job of circulating air than fans pointing into the home.

Structural insulated panels and rigid foam boards have the highest R-value of any insulation that contractors commonly use, with R-values reaching up to around 8.0. These types of insulation are best in extremely cold climates, but they’re generally preferred for new construction, as they can be challenging to retrofit. Blown-in and loose fill insulation provide the next best insulative value, provided the installation is done properly. It’s important to choose an insulation type that meets your needs based on climate, as maximizing R-value may not always be financially worthwhile if you live in a moderate climate.
