"The estimate was provided the same day they came to look at the roof.  The estimate was detailed and easy to read.  Gino kept me informed of all the steps and the work was completed on time.  Very professional.

"The contractor was very efficient in getting the work done in a day. He came with a crew and that to me meant getting it done quick. There was a bit confusion, as the contractors English was somewhat challenging to understand. I would recommend this contractor just be advised that once you get passed that part everything went well. Thanks."

"The start of the job took longer than anticipated. The delivery of the windows took much longer then what was originally projected. The company was a month behind on their time of delivery. I was satisfied with the work done overall. Though there were two issues that needed to be addressed in relation to the job which I discovered after the work was completed. The problems were addressed but it took approximately two months for a return visit to correct them. The response time to correct problems with the job should have been much shorter."

"They were very pleasant to work with. Also tended to be very accommodating, when possible. My main complaint was that this contractor, being young and not having done a lot of "old" roofing (compared to NEW houses) was not always able to think "outside the box". Old houses have different, and sometimes strange items/types of construction, compared to new homes. A more experienced contractor would have been better for this 100 year old house. Overall, thou, the work was completed to my satisfaction."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.

While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.

Leaks are the top concern for skylights, often due to improper installation or worn-out seals. Over time, water can seep in and cause major damage to your home’s ceilings and walls. Other common issues include condensation, which leads to mold, as well as physical damage from weather or debris. If they’re not sealed properly, skylights can also bring unwanted heat in the summer or cold in the winter, affecting your home’s energy efficiency and tacking on extra dollars to your bills.
