"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

"Twice last year we had them clean our clogged 2nd-story gutter. Each time, the crew they sent showed up on time and did the job quickly and efficiently. Very prompt email Q&As and followup from Jonathan, the owner. We're about to hire them again for our fall gutter cleaning!"

"Chris showed up exactly on time, and prepared to get the job done. He cleaned out all my gutters on a three-story brick house with box cutters that were clogged, he cleaned the gutters in my garage, and he helped me figure out what the problem was in a floor drain. All in all, I thought his service was excellent, his attention to detail was strong (he even pointed out a problem on my roof not having to do with the gutters, and proposed a very reasonably priced repair). If I had to use one word to describe Chris's service on my house, it would bev superb. Also polite, friendly, experienced, knowledgeable... I've already got him scheduled in my calendar to come back in the fall."

"Dennis did a thorough job and was very attentive to detail. The deck looks significantly better since he power washed it and stained it. The stain was evenly applied and he even stained the trim at the bottom near our patio. I would definitely utilize him again in the future."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The most common problem with gutters is clogging from debris like leaves, blossoms, and seeds from surrounding trees. This debris can block downspouts, leading to improper drainage and water overflow.

Other common issues include:

  • Leaks and holes, which can often be repaired with gutter sealant or caulk.

  • Rust, sagging, or detachment from the roofline.

  • Damage from strong storms.

  • Improperly pitched gutters that don't drain correctly.

Regular cleaning in the spring and fall is the best way to prevent most of these problems. You may need to clean them more often during periods of heavy leaf fall.

Use of harnesses and ladders ensures safe roof access.

Gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year, in the spring and in the fall, to remove the debris from trees that can clog the eavestroughs and downspouts. Debris like leaves, twigs, and seed pods can build up and cause your gutters to overflow, potentially causing damage to your roof and foundation. Water backing up under the shingles can rot the edge of your roofline. Overflow water falling next to your foundation can end up leaking into your basement or crawl space.

Downspouts channel water from your roof and gutters into the ground following a specific route so water doesn’t accumulate around your house’s foundation. Without a downspout, the standing water will wash away material and disrupt the soil, leading to foundation erosion. The standing water will also form ice around your house during cold weather, causing a safety hazard.

Using less toilet paper is the easiest way to prevent future clogs. Also, avoid flushing sanitary products, thick paper towels, or hair down the toilet. If you’ve been using a brick in the tank to reduce the water used to flush the toilet, take it out immediately. Bricks will eventually fall apart and clog your toilet drain. Keeping your toilet lid closed also helps avoid future clogs.
