"From start to finish my experience with Mad City windows was excellent, from calling to get an appointment for estimate, for measurement of windows and installation. Everyone was pleasant, knowledgeable and proficient. The windows were in stalled in one day with all the old windows and site cleaned. The windows look great. I am very happy with the entire procedure. From start to finish was 6 weeks."

"American Remodeling has a good product (windows) that they stand behind. The installers were well-experienced and completed a quality job. They even went to Lowe's to get extra wood to ensure a quality fit for our new windows, before completing the job."

"They were wonderful! They contacted me immediately about the job and stayed in communication until their arrival, which was on time. They got right to work replacing my broken window and were quick, did the job right and cleaned up afterwards. They were also very pleasant and easy to work with. I could not have expected any more than the excellent job that they did. I highly recommend them!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

In Scranton, homeowners often underestimate the impact of older home construction, leading to issues like mismeasuring non-standard window openings or failing to address hidden water damage. Attempting window installation during winter can result in poor seals and drafts. Choosing windows without proper insulation or skipping critical steps like flashing and air sealing can reduce energy efficiency and lead to costly repairs down the line.

Helpful?

Scranton’s historic homes often have unique challenges, such as uneven masonry, out-of-square frames, or evidence of settling like sticking windows and cracked trim. If you notice water stains, doors that don’t close properly, or asbestos materials around older windows, these are signs your window replacement project may require specialized techniques. Consulting a local window service professional can help identify and address these complications early.

Helpful?

In Scranton, window replacement projects must account for cold winters, frequent freeze-thaw cycles, and humid summers. These conditions can cause older wood frames to swell or rot, and caulking to deteriorate quickly. Heavy snowfall and wind can also stress window seals. Scheduling installation between late spring and early fall helps ensure proper curing of materials and minimizes weather-related delays, resulting in better long-term energy efficiency.

Helpful?

For Scranton’s variable climate, opt for vinyl or fiberglass window frames, which resist moisture and temperature swings better than wood. Triple-pane glass with Low-E coatings and argon gas fill boosts energy efficiency, especially in cold winters. Use high-quality polyurethane caulk, closed-cell foam insulation, and durable flashing. Weatherstripping made from silicone or EPDM rubber is ideal. Always select products rated for Climate Zone 5A and look for energy-efficient certifications.

Helpful?

Window maintenance in Scranton should be tailored to the area’s seasonal extremes. Each spring, check for cracked or peeling caulk, especially on older wood frames common in Scranton homes. Clean and inspect screens in summer, and reapply weatherstripping or install storm windows in fall. During winter, monitor for condensation or ice buildup, which can indicate air leaks or insulation issues that affect energy efficiency and comfort.
