Thompson Family Painting and Remodeling was born some 30 + years ago in Augusta Georgia when I began painting at Medical College of Georgia. I quickly found out that this was not just something I enjoyed, but something I excelled at. I was taught from a very early age to always do my best at whatever I did and never to walk away from a job until it was done right. And this is the philosophy I have followed throughout my career. I moved from Augusta to Tulsa to Los Angeles to Redding California. Always striving to refine my skills and take them a step further. It was in Tulsa that I began remodeling homes and doing room additions. After moving here to Pennsylvania I got the opportunity to work on the magnificent and historic Colerain Mansion in Spruce Creek. A massive home built in 1790 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior. It is currently owned by celebrated author Dorothy Gray (Gurney). And it was at the insistence of Mrs. Gurney that I started Thompson Family Painting Company. And it is my solemn vow to provide the absolute best quality at the best price and leave you more than satisfied. Applying a topcoat sealer is not required, but it will keep the stain from fading over time. This is particularly important if the stain imparts a color or varnish. If you’re staining exterior wood, you should apply a sealant or finish to prevent weather-related issues down the line. Also, stained wood that lacks a seal won’t look as clean and fresh. A clear topcoat will give it the professional result you want.

Avoid using wood filler for structural repairs or areas with extensive damage. Wood filler is designed for cosmetic fixes like filling small holes, cracks, or surface imperfections, and it doesn't provide the strength needed for load-bearing repairs or large gaps. You also shouldn’t use wood filler in areas exposed to heavy moisture or extreme outdoor conditions unless it’s a product specifically rated for such environments. Wood replacement or a strong epoxy resin is a better solution for severe rot or structural damage.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.

Yes. A good mixture to condition your leather is made from one tablespoon of natural baby soap, a splash of vinegar, and 2 cups of warm water. Mix these ingredients in a bowl and use a microfiber cloth to rub it into the leather in small circles. 

You can apply the same technique with a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts linseed oil. Once you’ve applied this to leather with a cloth, let it sit for 10 minutes before buffing with a small cloth.
