Big Stacks Hauling Services LLC was founded in May 2024 and is a veteran owned and family operated business. Based in Summit Hill Pennsylvania, we serve the surrounding area specializing in junk removal, material hauling, towing, and long-haul deliveries. As a family operated business, we understand the hardships that come in our current economy and strive to do the most work for the lowest price possible.

"They provided a prompt response to my request for proposal (within half an hour after posting the job on Angi's). I had the price within two hours, reached agreement on a mutually agreeable schedule to execute the job, and I gave them the order to complete the job by the end of the day I was first contacted. Contractor arrived on time and worked diligently until the job was completed three hours later. The owner, Ryan Moser, is both very professional and very personable. He completed the work efficiently and made certain I was satisfied with the work that he did. I have hired many contractors to perform various jobs over the last forty years, and I would place Big Stacks Hauling Services in the top five percent in terms of responsiveness, professionalism, and communications. The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

Once you have your garbage disposal disconnected, you can remove the mounting bracket by unscrewing the bolts that are holding the bracket. You can back them out just enough to pop off the snap ring, which prevents the bottom portion of the bracket from disconnecting from the top when you unscrew the bolts. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.

Garbage disposals last an average of seven years but can function well past 10 years. However, as time goes on and more food is ground, the grinding plates will slowly lose their edge and need replacing. A motor likely won’t last 10 or more years, but you should be able to get a minimum of five years at least, even under heavy usage. 

Your garbage disposal will only affect the health of your septic tank if you’re using it too frequently, or filling it with organic waste that doesn’t fully break down. If the tank fills up with too many solids, the bacteria won’t have enough time to consume it before more is added, which can lead to an overflow in the drain field. Your tank will need to be pumped more frequently with excessive or improper garbage disposal use.
