"Derek and team have been to our house twice and soon a third time. Derek came the night we moved in and gave us a quote for some urgent work. The team fit us into the schedule and knocked out one large room and a fire place. The quality of work was AMAZING. They just came back and did our dining room, entry way and three other rooms. Will have them back again in spring to finish the remainder of the house. I highly recommend their services! PS - they also do deck staining and tile. Will be inquiring about that as well."
"Mike and his crew did an amazing job. Mike's advice was valuable in helping us chose paint and color, the work was impeccable, fast and He even helped rebuild the wood ramp to our home and pained that as well. I have already suggested him to friends needing a pained deck. and will hire him for any future needs."
"I couldn’t be happier with the work Eastwood Carpentry did for us! From start to finish, they demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. The quality of their work is simply outstanding, and it’s clear they take immense pride in what they do. Not only that, but their pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the high level of expertise they bring to the table. The team was clean, professional, and respectful of our home, always leaving the workspace spotless at the end of each day. Communication was seamless throughout the project, and they were always willing to accommodate our needs and preferences. If you’re looking for a reliable, skilled, and fairly priced construction company, Eastwood Carpentry is the way to go. Highly recommend!"
"Although CertaPro was the most expensive, we decided to go with them because they were the most responsive. We needed the house interior painted, which included filling in cracks and holes in the walls, caulking gaps between wall and trim and cutting out damaged drywall around moving cracks and joints, re-tape spackle until smooth. Removing loose nails in great room ceiling and replace with screws. Water spots from skylight leak primed with stain blocking primer, and various loose seams removed and replaced. A painter we used previously left several drips along wood the trim, which CertaPro would clean up if possible. Although the contract was signed at the beginning of June, the work wasn't started until August 21st and completed on August 23rd due to other projects they had. The work crew was professional and courteous. The work crew indicated that they were not able to clean the paint drips left on the wood trim by the previous painter. We had them paint the wood strip at the top of the trim in front of the kitchen the same color as the walls so that the drips would not be noticeable. The work crew cleaned up every day when they finished for the day. They did a good job. The owner did not do a final inspection of the work but did call a few days later to ask how it went and it anything needed to be touched up. After the paint settled, we noticed some things that needed to be touched up. The work crew came back and did the touch ups. Now the house looks nice and clean. "

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.
Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.
When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.
To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.
Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.
Yes, it is important to wash your deck before painting to ensure the paint applies well and adheres properly. While you don't have to use a pressure washer, it is one of the most efficient cleaning methods. Pressure washing can quickly remove dirt, wood fibers, and flaked paint, getting deeper into the wood than manual scrubbing. You can also clean the deck with a stiff broom and a cleaning solution. Regardless of the method, a clean surface is essential for good paint adhesion. Make sure the deck is completely dry before applying any paint.
The number of coats you need to apply when whitewashing a surface depends on how opaque you want the final product to be. If you're going for a transparent, barely there look, a single coat or two may suffice. For fuller coverage, you'll want to use multiple coats. Another option is to use a less diluted paint to get a thicker coverage.
