"Greg assured me that when he starts a crew of 3 would be until they finished. They showed up and started Sheetrocking and you can tell right away that it has been a long time since they sheet rocked. The gaps around all boxes and lighting fixtures were huge. Greg assured me that he would be doing the spackling so the finished work will be clean. A worker or two would show up the rest of that week and continue to rock. Greg showed up the second week for a full week with his guys and things were looking good. He assured me that he was here to the end. At the end of that second week he asked for more money. I had already given him a third down which was high. Trusting this man, I was foolish enough to give him another third of the cost. Big mistake! The following weeks there would be a worker or two with Greg making an occasional brief appearance. He let one of his unskilled workers to tile my shower stall. What a mess, all the grout lines on the side wall were a quarter inch higher than the grout lines on the back wall. He had cut tiles and jammed them against tiles with no room for grout. A sure water leak. Greg finally came, ripped it down and started again. He showed up a couple days and started to tile again. Then he disappeared again. My wife and I are seniors and are living in an attic room with no running water in the house. We are using a bucket for a toilet with water from the neighbor's hose. Six weeks now with no water while he runs off to other jobs. He had one worker stop by to install the hardwood floors while Greg was nowhere to be found. When I noticed a chip out of the corner of my hardwood right in the center of the hardwood floor. I shut that guy down and told him to tell Greg about it. Greg assured me he would fix it. He finally showed up on the seventh week of what should have only been a four week job at the most. What we thought was work going downstairs was them packing up and leaving. They left garbage from another job in my driveway as they scurried. They walked off with my broom and dustpan and I am sure other things will be gone when I look for something. I had to lend his guys so many tools because they were unprepared. If you notice most of his reviews are for small handyman items. I was the fool who trusted him, giving Greg the brake he was hoping for. What a big mistake. I wish I could put photos on here because I have plenty. I just noticed today in the crawlspace they cut completely though a floor joist to install the shower trap. Seven weeks with everything partially done. Keep his jobs small and never give more than 10 percent down. Friends and I are getting the house back together. Thankfully the couple grand I am loosing will not phase me. It makes it easier to sleep at night. I am writing this to protect others from his smooth talk. Good Luck"

We are a local small handyman service that focuses on providing our customers with great quality work and exceptional customer service. There are many professionals in the construction industry, yet so many just dont seem to act professional. They simply provide just little to no real customer service to their customers. At ONeil Bros., We believe that along with producing quality work we strive to give & guarantee our customers trust, peace of mind, satisfaction, comfort and happiness with the job always completed. ONeil Bros. is composed of two members of whom are brothers. Between them both they have experience in carpentry, framing, drywall, painting, decks, patios, siding, plumbing, electrical , and many more odds and ends. Also we both specialize in home energy solutions (insulation) Types of insulation we can install: blow in cellulose, fiber glass batts, blanket wraps, radiant barriers, and mineral wool. We also do crawl space clean-outs,vapor barriers, and basement wall wraps. Feel free to contact us no matter what the job. Because if we can do it, we will do it.

Hardwood Flooring questions, answered by experts

Installing carpet on stairs involves a lot more cutting, tucking, tack strips, and time. The shape of your staircase, along with the material and construction of the carpet you’re installing, will also increase the cost. Carpet installation on stairs will cost $400 to $800 in total, but it can go as high as $2,500 for difficult staircases, such as wrap-around, upholstered, or spiral staircases.

Ceramic tile is the best flooring for radiant heat systems—and, in particular, radiant bathroom flooring—because it conducts and retains heat well. Plus, it’s inexpensive, available in many colors and sizes, easy to install, and waterproof. Other types of flooring that work nicely with radiant heat systems include laminate, engineered wood, and vinyl.

Carpet typically lasts 5-15 years, depending on material quality and traffic levels. Regular maintenance, such as professional cleaning, can extend carpet longevity and preserve appearance.

Removing baseboards is not always necessary when removing carpet, but it can make the process smoother and yield better results. It allows for neater removal of the old carpet and better installation of the new one with a more professional-looking finish. However, if you're looking for a quicker and less invasive option, you can try carefully cutting the carpet near the baseboards and removing it. This approach might work if the baseboards are in good condition and you're not concerned about the quality of the installation.

There are many different types of carpets for you to choose from. When choosing a carpet, it’s essential to consider the following:

  • Fiber: Describes what your carpet is made of, such as polyester, wool, nylon, or acrylic.

  • Pile type: Explains how your carpet looks. Your carpet fibers can be looped, twisted, cut, or woven.

  • Pile height: Describes the length of your carpet. You can choose a low, medium, or high pile.

  • Density: Refers to how close yarn fibers are to each other.
